best sun burn remedy?

DH was golfing in Albuquerque yesterday and apparently did not wear enough sunscreen and he is burned really badly.

What are your best remedies for sunburn? I have some after sun cream but he sounds really miserable. He will be home in a few hours and I want to help him.

Pure aloe is the best I have ever used. Growing up we had a huge aloe plant and would break a piece off and rub it on the sunburn. You can buy aloe in the bottle at WalMart/CVS/ Walgreens etc

The sun can be brutal here in Albuquerque due to the high elevation. If he's sunburned, the skin is already damaged and will most likely peel. But, you can help take the sting out by putting pure Aloe gel on his burn every few hours. You can buy bottles of the gel at Walgreens. I hope he's not too miserable.

Just a quick note - if you have not used aloe before, do not just start slathering it on. Try it on a small area first. Some people are allergic to aloe, and trust me, an allergic reaction to aloe on top of a sunburn is a bad combination.

Really? I have found quite the opposite. I have been burned many times badly enough to need the Silvadene (kitchen burns) and it feels like immediate relief when I put it on.

So of course I have a big tube right now. I brought it on vacation and my dd used it. It takes her sunburn away quickly.

Solarcaine - its aloe gel with some pain reliever in it. It comes in gel or spray. The spray is nice because there's no rubbing it in, just spray it on. It does fell cold when spray first hits the skin.

Take a soft cloth and soak it in milk then lay it on the sunburned skin. It takes the sting out and helps heal the skin at the same time.

go to the sun care aisle at your local store and look for any product that contains benzocaine (a topical anesthetic). Have him take a couple of tylenol or advil too.

I use the solarcaine too, and tea. I use 4 or 5 teabags in boiling water, and let them soak until it is very strong tea. When the tea is only slightly warm I place a towel or washcloth (depending on the size of the burn) in the tea, wring it out so it isn't drippy, and place on the sunburn. If your husband can deal with the pain, taking a warm (not hot) oatmeal bath helps with the itching of the burn as well as pulls out the sting. A big thing too, is if he blisters, DO NOT PUNCTURE THE BLISTERS! Hope this helps!

Years ago (I think I was 12 (I'm 33 now)) I got a really bad burn all over as I am a pale skinned redhead. My uncle suggested taking tea bags and putting them in the bath tub filled with cold water. I thought he was crazy but it really helped take the pain away. I felt pretty good after that but still had some pain when exposed to the Catastrophe Canyon in MGM (I felt the heat from the flames more intensely).

wow. thanks everyone he is as red as I have ever seen him, mainly just the back of his calves. He is soaking an oatmeal tub right now but the vinegar was a bust. I had an Aloe plant in my freezer so I have broken that out now.

As a bonus Karissa feel on the way up the escalator at the airport and one of the pointing metal parts jammed into her knee. It bled a lot but its slowed down now. Still debating on whether or not to take her in.

Noxema.....the cold cream.........

Anytime I have sunburn I put some on (cake it on), leave it on for a few minutes then get into a cool shower. Take the sting out. I then make sure I put on Aloe Vera Gel to help keep the skin moist.


Sun exposure is the a big cause of malignant melanoma, which is skin cancer that WILL kill you.....so make sure in the future you tell your loved ones to cover up!!!!!
