best split stay tip?

I have a 3 hotel split stay coming up in December. Do we request magic bands for each hotel? The option is there to request for all 3 stays.
You don’t have to - any MB linked to you in MDE will work at 3 hotels and throughout your stay, so all you need is one. But you can if you want! Many people order them in different colors and coordinate them with their clothing each day.

I thought once we checked out of the first resort we would be good to go for the second resort. We have to have it reset?

No, you should not have to have a MB "reset". The MB does not contain any information whatsoever. It is merely a device for accessing your MDE account, which is where all the data about you and your trip(s) is stored. All bands on your account are interchangeable and all will work for all trips.

That said: each resort is managed independently, and the resort system allows each one to do slightly different things, including limiting the number of bands that can be used for resort- specific functions. Yacht and Beach Club do this often, as a way to prevent non-guests from accessing SAB by using extra bands from friends who are staying there.

Because of this resort specific functionality, it is possible that you could have an issue at the second resort with your band not opening your door. In that case, the front desk will force the system to override the block out that the first resort placed on your account and allow the band to be used. Not a reset of the band - it's a clearing of your MDE. CMs generally don't really understand the workings of the systems and the technology, so I can understand someone saying they're "resetting your band", but that's not what's happening.

Again, you shouldn't have a problem, but it's always possible.

Could checking out at the first resort help with this problem?

We ALWAYS do split stays. In January we did 5 out of 9 days! It was actually fun. (We are 2 adults)

The #1 tip I can give you is if you leave the first room prior to 11:00 hoping to arrive early to 2nd resort, ALWAYS make sure you officially check out at the front desk. Makes life so much easier at the 2nd resort.

It could. and should, except I've had the experience of going by the BC front desk and "checking out" - even telling them i was moving to AKL - and then getting to AKL only to find my band wouldn't open the door. Front desk there got things sorted out, but turns out the BC desk never actually processed the checkout despite my request.
