Best slice of NY city pizza

Seriously...anywhere. There are pizza places all over and they are all delicious. It's the NYC water. It really doesn't matter where you go. Any pizza place in NYC has better pizza than anywhere else in the country.

Don't waste your time, not only trying to find the best place, but acually trying to GET to that place. Do your sightseeing or whatever else you're doing and just stop at anywhere you see pizza. :thumbsup2

(Pizza is my favorite food and I'm so glad I live i the NYC area for that reason ALONE!)

I somewhat agree with the above quote, but would like to add that you should look for a pizzaria that looks "old." So if a place is brightly lit and looks a modern chain, go elsewhere.

That might explain why we didn't like the pizza from "Two Boots" in the Grand Central food court. That was the only pizza we tried in our one-and-only trip to NYC and it was disappointing. We're taking notes from this thread.

Yes you definitely don't want a chain! Yout want a fat, old Italian guy with a mustache behind the counter and lots of locals.

Rays has a very Greek (Crete) flavor to me. It was also similar to the pizza my Sicilian friend makes.

I was not able to try any of the other pizza places while there this summer. True pizza (the kind from Naples) will have a very thin crust that is sort of flavorless. The sauce will just be like stewed tomatoes and there is barely any cheese. And it is cooked in a wood oven. Once you get use to it, it is fabulous. The olive oil on top will make it soggy.
