We plan to go to The Fort spring break 2013 and want to book soon. We have a 34' TT with 2 slides and will also bring our golf cart. Don't mind paying for a nice site. Amy input on loops and toe of site appreciated. Tks

You can probably book now for next year because you can book 499 days in advance (if it is a campsite only ressie and not a package they will charge you for one night deposit at the current rate but the rate for next year won't be set until this summer some time).

A 34' trailer will fit on a Full, Preferred, or Premium loop just fine. The difference is if you care to be a few feet closer to whatever is important to you (the peace and quiet of the woods, down close to the marina/beach, or in the center of the Fort). Full will be the cheapest, Preferred the next cheapest, Premium the most expensive.

Specific sites are not that important IMO. If you have a preference like "close to a Comfort Station" or "away from the main road" or "near a bus stop" then state it on your ressie. Specific site requests usually fail because someone may be on that site already when you want it. But if you tell the Fort WHY you wanted that site (see above) they usually try to accomodate your request.

If you have a cart then any where in the Fort is only a few moments away. Heck, if you're walking (like me) then any where in the Fort is only a few moments away. :woohoo:

Welcome to the camping boards. As bama_ed pretty much covered it all, you won't have a problem with any site. The preferred sites 100-300 are closer to the marina for getting to the MK and the full hookups 1600-1900 are the farthest away from the marina. If you would like the sites with the most concrete surface then the premiums are for you. The 400, 500 and 700 are the closed to the marina and trails end restaurant. Regardless of what site you get, you will have a great time at Fort Wilderness.

Okay, we definently want to book a premium site. People seem to mention the buses and the marina. Do the buses just take you to the Marina or around the CG. We will have a golf cart. Can you drive a GC to the marina and hope the ferry? Guess I have not figured out why the bus seem so important. tks

Booked a Premium site and requested Loop 1200. Not sure why 1200. We have a 10 and 6 y/o and no pets. Will have a golf cart to make getting around a snap. If you think another loop might make more sense let me know.

Last thing, we go to Ocean Lakes over the summer and take our GC. They have a great loading and unloading ramp there. Does FW have something similar to help unload and reload the GC at the campground. I have ramps but they really are too short unless on a nice incline like my driveway so I can safely do it at home but would not use them if the area was flat(which Florida certainly is). tks

Yes, you can drive your golf cart to the marina and that makes it so much easier than using the buses. You can park your cart very close to the boat dock which is real nice when you get back later in the day from MK and you are tired. The buses run between the Settlement area (Marina/Trails End) and the Outpost bus stop at the entrance to FW (where you checked in). There are three routes that run through the campground. If you don't have a golf cart to get to the main bus terminal at the Outpost or a vehicle to get to the parks, the internal FW buses are very important.

1200 Loop is nice and centrally located. It is adjacent to 1300 (they share a common entrance out to the main road) and there is a playground and bus stop at the main road. It's a short walk to the Meadow Trading Post, main pool, and the campfire/singalong area. A comfort station located between 1200 and 1300 serves both loops.

You'll like it. :thumbsup2

We've been in 1200 our last two trips...one summer, one winter. Most sites are quite large and easy to enter. We also have a GC and find it very easy to get wherever we need to go...marina, TE, Outpost, trading posts, LOOPING!.

Elsewhere in the Campground Forum there are direction to a hill that can be used to off-load a GC. It's near the Outpost on a service vehicle road.
