Best sitcom ever?

I'm watching old Seinfeld episodes right now with DS 15. We are both cracking up, and agree that this is the funniest sitcom ever. I figure that alone says a lot - that a 40 year old mother and her 15 year old son can agree on the same show! So... what's your favorite?

I'm in the Seinfeld camp too! It's the only sitcom I can watch in reruns.

I think the Cosby Show was pretty great in it's day, too.

I agree, kikipug! I remember watching this when it was first on with my grandmother when I was young--then again in reruns as a teenager. If I'm flipping through the channels and find it nowadays--I still stop and watch it. It's just as funny as ever.

I Love Lucy or MASH

And this one certainly isn't in the same league qualilty-wise as Lucy and MASH, but it's one of my all time favorites--Perfect Strangers!

Lucy, MASH, or Cosby Show

Gotta break this down by decade. The main criteria I use is the timeless quality of the show, how well it holds up over time.

1950s -- I Love Lucy. Set the standard for sitcoms.
1960s -- Andy Griffith. Could be screwball comedy (i.e. Ernest T. Bass), could be very touching (i.e., Opie and the baby birds).
1970s -- MASH. Excellent ensemble that spent 11 years in a series set during a war that lasted 3 years.
1980s -- Roseanne. Okay, maybe it's because I'm watching this a lot on Nick @ Nite lately, but this series still makes me laugh out loud ("Becky cut the cheese" -- man, Darlene has great comic timing for a kid!!!)
1990s -- Seinfeld. Eccentricity at its funniest.
2000s -- too soon to tell.
