We are going to Europe next month and I need shoes. While this isn't a Disney trip this is the best place I know for shoe advise. I have used the great suggestions here to find flip flops for our Disney trips. It probably won't be flip flop weather on our trip. Any suggestions for comfortable close toed shoes? I have never found a pair of sneakers that are truely comfortable and I have been to all types of running stores so sneakers are probably out.

It depends on what you will be doing. I'd bring some nice broken in walking shoes. Flip-flops are my favorite foot ware for airports when it comes to going through security simply because they are so easy to remove and put back on but are horrible for lengthy walks. We live in Europe and for the large trips, we will normally bring a backpack and stuff it with raincoats and extra snacks for everyone. Extra socks are never a bad idea either. Oh yeah, always carry cash in Europe. A lot of restaurants only take cash.

Sorry. I didn't see the cold weather part. Raincoats out, bring in the layers. It can get cold. As far as shoes, I alway wear my regular casual shoes for trips. Running shoes will be a quick way to identify you as an American. I hope you enjoy your trip. What do you plan on seeing?

Clarks makes some cute non sneaker, closed toe, trekking around shoes. Sorel does some cute super warm and dry mid height boots. Keen also does good non snow looking but still waterproof, comfy and warm boots/shoes.

have a wonderful time!!!

Thanks for the suggestions! We are going to London and Dublin so we need to be prepared for wet weather. At home I wear nice flats to work or Uggs or rain boots in the cooler months. Neither are great for walking.

I really like my Merrels, Dansko clogs, and Sanita clogs. I've worn all of them in Europe. I also like Clark's.

LL Bean Mocs are wonderful!!! They are surprisingly lightweight, but will keep your feet warm when needed but not so warm that you sweat. I wore mine when we toured Europe a couple of years ago.
