Is it worth spending the extra money on one of the new ships? We've never done Disney Cruise, but we have done RC several times and prefer newer, bigger ships. The other reason I ask is we live in Texas and departing from Galveston is more convenient. What's the best way to get the best price? :-)

I hate to say this, but while I loved the RC bigger ships, I found the Disney Dream a HUGE letdown. So I would go with one of the older classic ships.

Really? What did you like about the classic ships over the newer ships? We just got off the Magic and loved it and booked the Fantasy in 2014. Should we go with the Magic out of galveston instead (we live in TX as well).

We just loved the Fantasy. Booked on the Dream next February.
The size didn't bother us. The rainforest room is so much nicer. Cabanas is a big improvement as is the Aquaduck.

we went on the Fantasy last year and that was our first cruise ever and just went on the Wonder last month. We loved Fantasy much better, but enjoyed our Wonder cruise as well. Wouldn't hesitate to go on any of them again, need more KSF.

Magic is a beautiful ship and I LOVE it; in comparing the the Fantasy, a positive for the Magic is that, while neither of our cruises were at "peak" times, the Fantasy (and in particular the kids clubs) seemed so much busier because of the size of the ship. The Magic is smaller and more intimate. If it were just me, I would be perfectly happy with the Magic, but if it were only up to my kids - Fantasy Fantasy Fantasy. Bigger kids clubs (but not "bigger" enough to make up for the increase in cruisers), mid-ship detective agency, "cooler" Animator's Palate, magic porthole and, of course, the AQUADUCK.

Never been on the Dream, primarily because of the short duration of the cruises.

So in short, if it is just adults, I think that you will be more than satisfied with the Magic - and so will any kids. Especially since you will save a bunch of $$ going out of Texas. BUT, once you do go on the Fantasy with kids, it will be hard to get them to go back to the Magic (but my kids are going to have to suck it up, because our next cruise is on the Aquaduck-less Magic again)!

Since DCL won't be sailing out of Galveston much longer, if I lived in Texas I would take advantage of the nearby port. Chances are you'll be hooked and do another Disney cruise on one of the other ships.

We like them all -- they're Disney, but we really prefer the smaller size of the classic ships. And we also enjoy their different itineraries. The Fantasy and the Dream are locked into Port Canaveral sailings, so the only chance to sail "outside the box" is on one of the classics.

The Fantasy is gorgeous and we enjoy the modern upgrades, but it takes so long to "hike" from one end to the other I kept asking "Are we there yet?" Shoulda packed a lunch.

But if you prefer the larger RCL ships, you should be fine with the Fantasy. As a PP said, we avoid the Dream because of the too-short cruises.

Not mine. She's 6 and has been on 7 cruises - 1 Wonder, 2 Magic, 1 Dream, 3 Fantasy. We are headed back to the Magic in Oct and she is THRILLED. In fact, she's worried they might remove the slide in the kids club. She calls the Magic "her" ship.

Don't get me wrong, the Fantasy is great. The family ranks the ships 1) Magic, 2) Fantasy, 3) Wonder and 4) Dream.

In short, I would not hesitate to choose the Magic out of Texas hands down. I'd consider the money savings a bonus ;)
