My husband and I will be on the basic DP in September. We are looking for a good seafood option. We have booked Coral Reef, which will be a new experience for us. However, I'm not sure I'm completely sold on the menu. I'm not big on fish or mussels, but I enjoy crab, shrimp, lobster, and think I would like scallops. Any suggestions for a good seafood menu that isn't a signature restaurant? I may would go off the dining plan for somewhere that's not on the DP if it's favorable. Thanks for the help!

IMO none of the seafood at WDW is really stellar and the stuff that is stellar you pay WAY too much for ($72 for a lobster at narcoosees). That said Cape May Cafe buffet seems to be pretty popular with the all you can eat snow crab legs. I love snow crab legs so if this fit into my other plans I'd do it. They have other seafood dishes but mussels is I think one of them... also clams (which is not on your list yay or nay), peel and eat shrimp and depending on day some fried seafood (clams/shrimp/calamari), plus plenty of non-seafood options. It's 1TS and a good value on the DDP.

Also the shrimp and scallop dinner at BoG seems to get good reviews. I don't think you will find a lot of crab and lobster options outside of signature restaurants basically, but shrimp seems to be more commonly available.

I thought the same!! The menu was lacking in the seafood I like. We did Cape May instead. LOVED it. All the crab legs you can eat, and a nice selection of seafood !

I'm not a seafood person, but we did Coral Reef and my husband was fine with the seafood, however the ambiance there is really the best part IMO.

IMO Coral Reef is more fish than seafood. I've really enjoyed it, but I get the fish (mahi mahi).

As the PPs have mentioned, Cape May buffet is a decent choice & a favourite of mine as well.

Another possible is Tokyo Dining if you like breaded scallops and shrimp. Their tempura scallops & shrimp are excellent.

Teppan Edo also has some seafood selections (I've had their scallop dish & it was very good) but I find the portions a bit small & the dining experience can be rushed.

Bluezoo, but not on DDP. I am sure I will be flamed for this but IMO Cape May is like Red Lobster, mass quantity of lower quality farmed seafood.

I like Coral Reef, but it can be hit or miss. Cape May Cafe is good, especially if you like crab legs and steamed clams and mussels.

We've never had really great seafood in Disney, but have thought Cape May is decent for a sit down...

Believe it or not, for a QS credit, Columbia Harbor House is great. Nothing fancy of course, but the seafood is consistently delicious and can't beat the price if paying OOP :)

I miss FF, was the best seafood on property:( ...although The Boathouse has a fabulous Lobster Roll.

I sure hope so and that it's as good as it's always been.
I read that they are mixing up the menu but the signature favorites were staying (I assume the potato wrapped snapper, the steak, and the peekytoe crab cakes among others)

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I was not impressed at all with Cape May. To me it is nothing more than a "Golden Corral" quality restaurant that offers average crab legs that can be found in so many Chinese buffets here at home. It is your typical buffet food made in massive amounts at a time to be scooped up at serving stations sitting on heated tables. I'll admit, I am not a buffet fan. I much more prefer my meals to be prepared upon ordering and not in portions serving 100 people at a time. My favorites when it comes to seafood is Narcoossee's and Flying Fish and will be trying Blue Zoo this June, but these are all signatures. For 1TS I do like Coral Reef better but with that said, Captains Grille has a few really nice seafood dishes as well at the Yacht Club and I think their crab legs blow Cape May's away.

Coral Reef has been very, very spotty for us and I agree, FF is very good. But having said that, CR has the BEST atmosphere onsite.

We love seafood and were very pleased with Cape May Café. It also offers traditional roasts and such so something for everyone! :)

For seafood, we've tried Cape May, Coral Reef, Boathouse (which I don't ever want to go back to). We like Coral Reef okay, I usually order the Lobster Mac and Cheese (no longer on the menu it seems?) or Mahi.

I'd say try Captain's Grille, or at least check out their menu. We've liked dining at Captain's Grill, but we didn't eat there on the DP, so I never ordered any seafood, since I'm not paying $30 OOP for crab legs...

(edit)
I forgot my favorite, we love Cookes of Dublin! Surprisingly it's QS. Love their fish and chips and fried shrimp. I also like Columbia Harbor House as someone mentioned above.

Blue Zoo is the best seafood spot but it isn't on the DP AND it is Signature expensive. Coral reef would appear to be your best choice--

I just want my Flying Fish Crab Cakes back! I really missed those this year. (And yes, I am a landlubber who doesn't know any better.)

I thought about trying BlueZoo this year but never did. Maybe next year.

For a single credit on the DDP, take a look at the Captain's Grille at the Yacht & Beach Club. I think it's an underrated WDW gem and it has reasonably good seafood (and steaks too).

But the best seafood is probably at bluezoo, although it's not on the DDP.
