We are taking a day trip this Saturday (I know...worst day to travel there) and in need of a better route to avoid traffic. I heard something about taking the Black Horse Pike? I am coming from Philly. Thanks!

My DH and I just took BHP to Brigantine, NJ. He wanted to avoid some toll road. I don't know enough about geography to know if this will help you, since you're heading to OC, but I can say that the turnpike coming out of AC was HORRIBLE on our way home. It was bumper to bumper heading into AC, and not much better leaving it. The BHP was free-flowing, but a bit congested and felt really long because of the reduced speed limit, all the lights, and the people pulling onto it.

I almost feel like it's six of one, half dozen of another, and I guess in that case, I'd go with BHP because at least there's stuff to look at along the way.

Have fun! We had such a blast. I love OC! Ooh, I could really go for some Kohr Bros. right now... chocolate dipped peanut butter. To die for. :cloud9:

Walt Whitman down Rt 42(Through Turnersville)to Black Horse Pike(RT 322 in Williamstown) to County Route 559(Weymouth Rd, Somers Point Rd, Mays Landing Rd). Follow 559 through Mays Landing etc to Somers Point and across 9th Street Bridge into Ocean City.

It ain't cheap but i would take the AC expressway. Blackhorse pike is like driving 309. It isn't horrible but tons of little towns and tons of stop lights. So if you are willing to pay a little money (check thier website for total cost). Directions are from Google.

If you are seriously strapped for cash and want skip the GSP, which will cost you less then 50 cents you can take route 9 south but it is a nightmare road (super busy and super slow). Kind of like driving Broad Street...

Blackhose is not a bad drive but you are looking at about 2 hrs and while you can stop at Canal's for cheap beer (OC is a dry town), the stop and go though all of the small towns is more then i can tolerate. So i always take the ACE to the GSP. Both roads will take EZ Pass. I haven't done it in a couple years so i don't know if there are any construction spots but taking the highways will be an easy and quick drive. OC is a super nice area and make sure you swing by the rides that are there plus there are some larger waterparks/rides... I honestly don't know anything about the second linked location but the first has been there since the 50s and I have been there tons of times when i was little. Have a great time.

Yeah, that's the road that was awful as we were leaving, the AC Expressway. It was heinously backed up heading into AC and was not great heading out. That was a Saturday.

I live right be the AC Expressway...avoid it at all costs for the first half of every Saturday in the summer. The back way suggested by parrothead is what I would suggest. Have fun!

My advice is to get on the road EARLY! We're in NJ, and it took us less than 3 hours to get to wildwood last friday morning. My sister came on Saturday, made the huge mistake of not leaving the house until 8:30 am, and it took 5 1/2!
