When we were in Orlando last Easter, we went over to Clearwater one day. It took us almost 3 hours to get there - and DH does not drive slowly! Neither does he get lost! (Men don't, you see ;) )

All the guidebooks suggest it should only take 1.5 hours or so - so maybe we didn't go the best route.

Anyone got a quick route?

Julie

Um, it's kind of hard not to find Clearwater (although 1.5 hours might be pushing it in moderate traffic). You just head straight down I4, pick up I275 south then Highway 60 west all the way to Clearwater. Can't miss :teeth:

I assume you mean Clearwater Beach NOT Clearwater (which is about fifteen to twenty minutes nearer).

As Simon says just use I4 etc. It takes us about an hour and a half to Clearwater Beach from Hampton Lakes on US 27, which is only about three miles from the western end of 192.

It could, perhaps, take another half hour from Kissimmee town centre, but not twice as long!

I'm going to be very daring here and say .............

I bet DH got lost really and blamed you for bad navigation skills

Thats what happens with us

It once took us 3.5 hrs from Sanford to Thousand Oaks cos we took the wrong turning out of the airport and found the Orange Blossom Trail which is like a million miles long - but we knew that if we stayed on it we would get to Thousand Oaks and we did! All of this was due to my DH's wonderful driving and my bad navigational skills, (yes I did hold up both hands on this one) but it was only our 2nd trip to Orlando and first using the car.

So dont feel bad - men are for driving, girlies are for navigating!

Just like all DH's have 'man flu' and DW's have 'girlie sniffles' - but that another story. I daren't tell him that friends of ours have a 3 year old who has got chicken pox and no doubt he will get that as well.

We went two weeks ago and it took us three hours there and three back. I'm sure we were not lost!!! We definately went on the right road but the traffic was really, really slow due to road works. They may be gone now but I would check before I set off on that road again!!!!

Saying that, we had a super afternoon there, collecting shells and watching the dolphins and we watched the sunset which was spectacular.

No - honestly, we didn't get lost! But like Wheezie's experience, there was a lot of very slow moving traffic especially from Tampa onwards. It was the day before Good Friday last year, so maybe there was just more traffic than usual.

Isn't that because men go out and do a hard days graft, whilst their women stay at home eating chocolate and watching daytime TV. Then when the men get home the dinners not on the table.

Sorry couldn't resist that.

Part of the navigating problem is that we're all knackered after a nine hour flight and two hours in immigration. When you finally get the car the road signs are so bad that you invariably end up saying "we should have taken that turn." It's about time somebody provided better maps of Orlando and the surrounding area. How abou including one with the next edition of the "Brit's Guide" Simon ?

Were spending our 3rd week in Indian Rocks, Is that the same distance as clearwater of a bit further??

We too thought it would take us about 1 1/2 hours:moped:
