Best room requests for Grand Floridian Resort Studio Standard View?

We are staying at the Grand Floridian for the first time in a few weeks and have a Resort Studio Standard View. I am not very familiar with the resort at all and am looking for advice on a room request. I saw an alternate layout for the resort studio and also interested in details on those. Are there only a few? It looked to have a smaller balcony and plain view but larger room layout in the videos. From what I have seen, that room type is all in he same building, so if anyone wantst to share their favorite/least favorite rooms and why I'd love to hear it! Thanks in advance!

All the new Resort Studios are in the Big Pine Key building. One side of the building faces the lagoon & Wedding Pavilion - the other side faces the courtyard and pool. I believe that most standard view rooms are on the courtyard/pool side of the building, but there could be obstructed views on the lagoon side that would be considered standard.

We stayed in a "turret" room recently and it was amazing. They are on the 2nd - 5th floors, only 1 per floor. The one on the 5th floor does not have a balcony. I posted pictures of our room on the main VGF thread. I would probably request this room type again in the future, even with the risk of getting the one on the 5th floor without the balcony. The extra space was so nice; it truly was a gorgeous room. I think if I were not going to request a turret room, I'd probably just request higher floor. That way you have less of a chance of looking at the backside of the pool buildings.

I think it’s a toss up whether you want to ask for higher floor & risk not getting a balcony on the 5th floor or getting a box balcony on the 5th & 4th floors to avoid the lower floors w/ views of the pool buildings.
When we stayed in BPK in November I absolutely loved the building’s location, I asked for upper floor w/ full balcony & we ended up in a 4th floor box balcony studio that straight ahead had this view of Boca Chica

But sideways I could see this, which was nice.

There are around 85 standard view resort studios in BPK, 4 of them are turret studios & the 5th floor turret studio d/n have a balcony - so there’s around a 5% chance you’ll get one of those & a 95% chance you won’t. There’s also a 5th floor standard view studio w/ a bay window but no balcony, & 2 regular size 5th floor standard view studios w/out balconies. The rest of the 5th floor standard views and many of the 4th floor standard views have the enclosed box balconies.

THANK YOU!! That is exactly what I was looking for! After reading that not all resort studios have a balcony, I was scared to make a certain room request and have it backfire on me. Any room on Disney property is great, but I really love my balccony coffee time in the mornings and would be disappointed without one. Having never stayed at GF I am trying to envision the "box" balconies being referred to. Do any other resorts have something similar? Are they only found on the higher floors? My request almost always includes high floor but I'm wondering if that should be left out for the resort studio

These “box” balconies are also called solid wall balconies. The average person will not be able to see over the solid wall while seated. Another resort that has this balcony type is Disney’s Vero Beach Resort on Florida’s Atlantic coast. It’s much more disappointing at Vero Beach where the Ocean Front Inn balconies overlook the sea.

I was pleasantly surprised that because the chair seats were a couple inches higher than normal I could actually see over the balcony wall while sitting in one enjoying my morning coffee - I’m 5’6” tall. I also liked the square shape because it was deeper than the long narrow balconies in most DVC villas.

My favorite room is always first floor. No waiting on elevators, I love having a patio.
