As repeat visitors, we're ok missing the fireworks in MK and prefer to use the time to hit rides. For others that do the same, what ride/rides do you find the biggest wait time drops if you wait to ride during the fireworks.

Oh, sorry, I can't help with wait time drops. I just wanted to say that my favorite to ride during fireworks is Splash Mountain (now Tiana's), with Thunder Mountain a close second. Once, just by serendipity, we hit the big drop when one of the biggest fireworks explosions occurred. I hate that drop, but that was really cool!

I was going to say the same! I love riding Big Thunder Mountain during the fireworks!

Big Thunder for sure but during this past trip, we rode SDMT and unexpectedly exited the Heigh Ho seen just as huge fireworks exploded overhead. That was a happy and powerful surprise!

This post is a few years old and describes the Late Night Fireworks Double Dash Challenge. Just substitute Tiana for Splash and you’ll get the idea:

As most of you know, the lines for the MK headliners get very short late in the evening, especially during the fireworks show. Here's something we did during our last visit that anyone can try.

The challenge is to ride both Splash Mtn and Big Thunder during the fireworks show without the aid of Lightening Lane. You won't get to see much of the show but what you do see is well worth the effort.

The key is starting at Big Thunder. Splash unloads too slowly at night and it wouldn't be possible to start there and make it to the coaster before the finale. You need to time it just right to be on the ride when the fireworks show starts. Keep in mind that the posted wait times are intentionally exaggerated at night. For example, if the sign says 30, the wait is probably only 10 so don't line up too early. After unloading hurry over to Splash as quickly as you can. Waits will be minimal if at all just because most guests don't like to get "wet" late at night.

If your timing is right, you'll be floating around the outside portions of the ride as the finale is going on overhead. Have fun!

All I know is we were waiting to get on Mine Train ride during or toward the end of the fireworks and we had to wait an hour just for them to clean up after the fireworks. They wouldn’t even open the standby line. We all just waited in a crowd that was not in any order and the people waiting the longest didn’t even get to go in first. (Except us because the cast member knew we’re were first ones there.)

Apparently it’s a danger zone or something at that time. I still don’t understand what was going on. And they wouldn’t let us move on to the next land so we were stuck there. And it was during the Xmas party so we paid extra to stand around for an hour.

Rides in the back of the park. However that does not mean the lines are very short just shorter, if you are lucky and get off the ride a few minutes before the official close the line near it will be very short. There are exceptions such as extra magic hour, party nights, night time paid hours in that case the lines will be long. I have also seen times when the area around space mountain towards speedway is rather empty also a great place to see the fireworks from a different perspective. If you are staying at a deluxe with extra magic hours the parks are in general empty an hour before the close and everything is walk on…. So plan a later start or a real nap or if you are the type that can go all day and more… Personally walked past many walk on rides because we were to tired to care at that moment at least.

7D is best to save for after fireworks. Our longest wait ever using this strategy was 20 minutes, but that was during opening week in 2014. Since then it has usually been 10 or less.
