Best resort for teen and kindergartener

I am trying to determine the best resort for me to take my 14 year old son and 5 year old daughter. It will just be the 3 of us. Daddy is NOT a fan of Disney so it will just be the kids and I.

My little girl and I just got back from a "Girls Trip Princess Week" on 9/27. We had so much fun we want to do it again and bring big brother. This will be my 14 year old son's FIRST time at Disney.

Trying to figure out which resort will be "cool" enough for the teenage boy but Disney playful enough to appease the little princess.

I'd ask him where he would like to stay since you and your dd just got back from a trip. I think it's exciting to a kid even a teen to be a part of the planning.

My older kids like the Beach Club, Poly, CSR, and WL in that order

I agree let him pick, but first do some research and narrow it down to 3 or 4 that are within your budget.

I plan on making it a surprise trip. My 14 year old son was a big part of the surprise trip I just did for his 5 year old sister. We had told little sister that we were taking Daddy to the airport for a business trip and when we got to curbside check in we told her that Daddy wasn't going on a trip, that her suitcases were packed and she and mommy were going to Disneyworld. My son videotaped the whole thing! Big brother was so so excited for his little sister.

I am telling my son that we are going to surprise little sister again. But, right after we surprise her then I am going to tell my son his suitcases are packed and that he is going too. He is 14 but has NEVER been to Disney. So I am trying to make it extra special for him.

Ha, ha.... IF Daddy ever went to Disney it would no longer be the happiest place on Earth. Daddy hates crowds and has absolutely NO patience. Disney wouldn't be a good place for him. I prefer it just being a mommy and kids happy place.

If it were just you and DS, I would say if you were going Deluxe the YC or BC, as I bet he would love SAB and all Epcot has to offer. Since it is the three of you, but you want it to be "cool" for him and "Disney" for her -- hmm, I'm thinking that the All Stars and AoA might be too non-cool for him, so I would either look at a FW Cabin, or maybe CBR.

Well, you don't mention which category, value, mod or deluxe. So.......BC/YC would be fun for everyone with a great pool and great location.

For moderate, POR is very nice. Boat to DTD, horse & carriage rides, Fishing Hole, fun family entertainment in the lounge. Bob Jackson puts on a great show.

I agree with letting him pick. That said, my DS13 would choose the following:

Deluxe: Beach Club, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Boardwalk and Polynesian would be at the top of his list (Grand Floridian would be at the BOTTOM - way too pretty)

Moderate: Coronado Springs, Caribbean Beach, POR (Alligator Bayou area) would all be great (POFQ would be WAY at the bottom; it's actually at the bottom of ALL WDW resorts for him; the decor and pool are not appealing for teen boys at all)

Value: These are all basically the same with the exception of decor. We've stayed at all (except Art of Animation). If you decide to go value then just show him pictures and let him choose based on interest. My personal favorites in this category are Pop and Movies.

If you do the Beach Club, there's a video game room, and you must challenge him to eat the "kitchen sink" at Beaches & Cream, with a little help from you and daughter! Depending on when you go, there may be some fun things to do on the Boardwalk. Movies, and campfires on the beach...All in all, good choice.

My sons are 24 and almost 26 now. The first time we stayed at OKW they were 15 and 17. Most people wouln't think of it for teenage boys but it is their favorite still. Even with the pastel colors. My daughter likes the colors, she was 8 at the time and she loves it there to. They like the space. Not just of the resort but the rooms are the largest on property. It is only 5 minutes to DTD. The marina is not overcrowded and noisy. Make sure to put aside some money so he can take one of the boats out. OKW is actually one of the few resorts with a basketball court. This I have found is a must with teenage boys as they can always find someone ready for a pickup game. A few times it was even with a few CMs going off duty. The bus system at OKW is very easy to navigate. They also liked the layed back atmosphere and the Jimmy Buffett music. DD also loved the place. She really liked the SandCastle slid at the pool and playing in the sand near the giant sand bucket and pail. She is special needs so a better age comparison might have been a 5 year old. By the way if you DS is willing to watch her for an hour there is a nice suprise in the lighthouse you might want to take advantage of. If you rent points from a DVC member it can really make it quite afordable. Much less then a deluxe even with a discount code.
