Best resort for family of 5

I wondered what other people thought was the best resort for a family of 5. We have 3 kids. For this trip, cost is a driving factor, though not the only one of course. It would be nice to be in the same room as well.

It seems like the options are to either spring for a deluxe that sleeps 5 or get 2 rooms in a value or moderate. It looks like some of the value rooms are adjoining, is this true? Also, I guess we could do a cabin at Fort Wilderness. Are there options I am not seeing?

We're only looking at a day on either end of our DVC stay. We don't have enough points to spend weekend points there.

Obviously there are more offsite options (i.e. Comfort Suites, etc.) Sometimes it's a little frustrating when so many places are now geared for families of 4. I know the Poly and Contemporary rooms were built with 5 people in mind, but after that, they stopped making decent sized rooms. Restaurants are the same way... oh well, couldn't imagine life without all 3 of them.

POR's AB section sleeps 5 with the trundle bed. That would be perfect for 2 adults and 3 kids, as long as two of the kids don't mind sharing a bed. And, this is a great resort.

I'm a family of five and we've always stayed in the Deluxe resorts. I was wondering about an inexpensive, mainly water park visit in the future. When I was playing around on the WDW Website, this resort never came up as an option. According to the website the resort has a max. occupancy of 4. Approximately how many rooms have the trundle?

To get their website to show POR with 5 you first have to try a different resort and then change it to POR, then you'll be able to get it to show you a price.

It's true that POR has those trundle beds, but since you mentioned room size, I think the rooms are quite small for 5 people, even if three are kids. (although you will only be there one night, so this certainly may be an option.) FW Cabins are a favorite of ours. Gives you plenty of room to spread out. We also just like being able to get away from the madness. It just seems so peaceful there.

We have stayed at POR twice with our 3 kids, and are planning on going back in July 2005. There is a trundle bed (which our kids fought over who got to sleep on!). There was plenty of room for us, we just tried to keep our stuff organized. We were in AB building 14 on our last trip, which was right next to the main building and food court. I have requested this building again for our upcoming trip. POR is a BEAUTIFUL resort, with great pools, a playground, and a fishing hole. There is a boat that takes you to downtown Disney as well.

We have stayed at POR twice as a family of 5, 2 senior citizens, me (34) and my two kids ages 7 and 10. We have been very comfortable and happy there. My mom and I fought over the trundle because my little one is a space invader when you share the bed with her. I am a fetal position sleeper so the trundle wasn't too small for me but if I slept stretched out my feet would have gone off the edge and I'm 5'5" and a half.
I since found out that SoG is an option for us, my ex is retired military and the kids have IDs. I talked to the kids about maybe getting to go to WDW soon and staying at SoG and they said they'd rather wait and save up to stay at POR!

With 5 we have stayed at Port Orleans (2 rooms ajoining-was nice to have the 2 bathrooms), we have stayed at Contemporary (one of the largest rooms), Boardwalk Inn, and Beach Club Resort. The lowest priced for the larger room was the Contemporary Garden Room and the children loved it there.

We stayed at POR way back in circa 1992 P.K. (pre-Kids :) ) when it was called Dixie Landings and we liked it then. I had heard there were moderates with 5 but I don't see it on the Disney website. I'm sure we would be crowded, but it still might be doable for one night. (Kids are 6, 8 and 10, btw.) We were thinking that one reason to stay onsite on both ends of the DVC stay is to be able to take advantage of the Magical Express. Also, we will be there during Pop Warner week we have since discovered - the rumor is they stay at the values and are to be avoided.

Of all the choices, we liked the FW cabins the best (until we bought into DVC). True, there is only 1 bathroom, but the full kitchen is very nice, plus, it does sleep 6, and the Murphy bed in the living room is very comfortable.

You could also check on the Rent/Trade Board further down the list under the Disney Vacation club heading.
