Best Resort for Couples

My Husband and I are returning to WDW in December 2009. We have booked 6 nights at the Poly, which is where we have always wanted to stay. I have read a lot of reviews that makes me feel like this resort may be more suited for families.

Is there a resort that is a good resort for couples?

Oh I think the Poly would be wonderful for couples.

I've posted this before, but what would be better than laying here watching the sunset over the Seven Seas Lagoon, followed by fireworks over the castle.

I am heading there soon and will be doing an adult only trip...we are staying at Carribean Beach Resort because it has more quiet nooks to hang out and beacheds to get away at than anywhere else...plus...cheaper than the Poly...which will lead to money being spent on things we want to do extra...

the dvc resorts are nice and with a 1-bedroom you get a full kitchen for midnight snack, a livingroom, king bed, in the bathroom - whirlpool tub and shower stall plus washer/dryer.

The POFQ is the smallest resort on property. We find it to be relaxing and intimate. Quiet walks along the river in the evening or a carriage ride are very romantic.

I agree with this poster about the POFQ and would also add PO Riverside as we stayed there and felt it had a nice romantic feel to it.

But I will give my number 1 vote to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We were there in December 2008 and expected it to be loaded with kids everywhere, but the only time we actually saw a lot of kids in one place was the food court (The Mara) for breakfast in the morning. DH and I both agreed that we will definitely be back to this resort the next time we have extra $ to spend as we loved the romantic feel of the rooms and the resort. When we stayed we were able to get a room only discount with our Disney Visa and paid $199 a night.

I havent been yet but I had wanted to do either of the New Orleans resorts. I had to go with my second choice Coronado Springs Resort because there were no options for us at the New Orleans sites. I chose CSR because I had heard that it was good for adults because it is also the convention center.

*shrugs* Looks gorgeous. I figure as long as you arent in the value resorts you shouldnt have too many kids.

I agree with you, me and my DH loves setting in the sand and wait for the sunset, more romantic for us.

Poly is good. But we always have trouble getting in there. So since we are Epcot folks mostly, we really like the Boardwalk. Ithe beach club has too many children and with stormalong bay and beaches & cream is much too chaotic.

Other places that get our vote (besides Poly & BW) Grand Floridian($$$$$$$$$), Wilderness Lodge & Animal Kingdom Lodge. Sometimes WL gets a little noisy but it's not too bad, and Artist Point is our favorite restaurant.

The DH and I really liked the Caribbean Beach Resort. Even though there were lots of people staying at the resort while we were there, it was super quiet. We really liked it a lot and would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Us, too. Not too many people were hanging out in the beach hammocks during the day, and the village pools were very quiet. It was very quiet and peaceful and good for "intimate time" together.

Well, it seems unanimous that just about every resort has something to offer!

For me, the Grand Floridian was amazing, but being a simple kind of guy, I felt like I was a little "over my head". Like I didn't really know how to truly take advantage of such luxury.

My personal favorite though, is the Boardwalk area. It has a nice atmosphere and a great location. With places like Jellyrolls and the ESPN Club (and so much more) right there, combined with a very short walk to the World Showcase at EPCOT, you have all kinds of food and drinks so close by. Plus I just really enjoyed strolling around the Boardwalk. Something about the combination of people and atmosphere was relaxing, fun, and energizing all at the same time.

I agree with the above poster - the Epcot resorts are fabulous for couples - Yacht Club or Boardwalk Inn especially. being on the Boardwalk wih the restaurants, Jellyrolls, - being able to stroll around the Boardwalk -- and walk to Epcot - and be in World Showcase in 5 minuntes.
DH and I stay at the Epcot resorts everytime now - to us it is the best place to stay as a couple!

If there are too many kids at Storm a long bay, the quiet pools are usually very quiet!

I thin you made a great choice-Poly is very romantic & relaxing. It does attract families because it's on the monorail, but no more than the other monorail resorts. You will find plenty of couples there as well & it's a big enough resort that you are not going to feel like you are in romper room or something

Romance-wise, you cannot go wrong with most of the resorts IMHO, except the Values. It all depends on what type of theme you consider romantic though.

Romantic perks about the Poly:

-White sandy beaches with Wishes viewing (and music piped in) & also great view of the Electric Water Parade
-Beautiful MK castle view
-You can take a boat to the MK
-Gorgeous & relaxing lobby
-Exotic flowers & foliage throughout. Fire lit torches to guide your way
-Beautiful & comfy rooms
-Awesome bar/lounge with fantastic entertainment
-Deluxe, so you get great service overall
-You can order in-room private dining if you would prefer
-On site luau show
-You are garunteed to get lei'd! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Here's a vote for Swan. It doesn't have the whole Mickey feel but it's within walking distance of Boardwalk, Epcot, and MGM. We were there in May and saw a few business conventions and maybe 4 kids.

I've stayed at the Yacht Club before and it was very quiet. It seemed that the theme didn't appeal as much to children. This year we're going to be staying at the Boardwalk, because we will be with my parents and they love the convenience of the restaurants.

I was just saying yesterday that Disney ought to have an adults only resort! I would bet it would be really popular!

We've stayed at POFQ 2x and found it nice and relaxing.

However, lately have stayed at either the Swan or Dolphin. We stroll back from a day at Epcot and just enjoy the Boardwalk and later seeing the the fountains/pool areas are really nice at nighttime.

My vote is for the Contemporary! I love being able to walk back to the hotel at night from MK, or watch the fireworks from our balcony, or go lie out in a hammock on the beach...if only it weren't so expensive

I agree with the Swan/Dolphin. I think some families avoid them because they are not Disney, and the location is great. After a long day in the parks, those hotels seem like an oasis. I adore the parks, but it's nice to have a break from the noise. I love the Wilderness Lodge, and thought I'd love staying there. But when we did, that lobby always felt like I was trying to relax in a big, crowded, noisy playground.
