Best RCI trades...

I have to admit that you had me a little concerned with your comments as I have extensively used the RCI Points program since it has been in existence and have used it as I mention earlier as a 'private exchange".
In the last two days I have talked with two RCI reps. and also RCI Corporate Legal and have presented the situation of a "private exchange" with a DVC Member. While there is certainly many variables and circumstances that all RCI & DVC members need to be aware of, the simple fact is that RCI has no problem with me booking a week, buying a guest certificate for any DVC member. On the the other side, I hope the selling of points or booking a unit for a non-DVC member by a DVC member is against the rules, because that is done very minute on this site and now I guilty of another crime.
I also used your comment "even excepting a meal" and they are not only unconcerned but also admitted that they would never monitor or "pursue" a member for doing something like that.
It would go without saying that RCI has and needs to implement many restrictions and guidelines to protect themselves, their members, and the timeshare industry. However, in my conversations with RCI headquarters, I am very confident that I have and will be able to do exactly what I suggested in my first reply on this post.
You are, however, correct in the statements of "renting" or "selling" a persons week or excepting any monetary compensation. So the ebayer's and others need to be very careful as they are putting their memberships in jeopardy.
Thanks again for all of you input and knowledge.:yay:
As with anything there is practicality and technicality. My post contained both pieces of info. I would be surprised if they pursued a simple gesture such as buying a meal however, it would technically be against their rules. Their rules also specifically state you cannot re-exchange the unit. How far they decided to take it would depend on their mood. Much of what I posted was based on direct knowledge gained by people on the wrong side of this issue so I'd simply suggest you be careful. Given you've also alerted them to your issue, that may actually work against you. I'd be very nervous doing a "private exchange" with someone you don't know, with a friend or neighbor, not so much. You might consider posting this question on TUG.

I thank you again for all of your insight! I hope I did not offend as I have truly benefited from ALL of your comments. As this is a DVC forum and its very obvious that I am not, I will refrain from any more post. Have a great day!!:yay:

How does RCI convert to WDW? (Weeks verses points?) What properties can you stay at? I know Boardwalk is one, but any others?

Going against the statement from my last post I can't help it, I need to respond.
All I know is how to book a DVC unit through the "Points" system. I have successfully done this many times.
Just search in the points inventory under Florida, and DVC units will come up. Right now Thanksgiving week is now available. As of this morning, availability at SSR, OKW, and also AKL came up. I was surprised at how little the points you need to book. For instance, 1 bed @ SSR for the whole week of Thanksgiving is only 56,500. Not bad.
I have been out of the "weeks side of RCI for years so have no clue on how to book thru weeks. Sorry:upsidedow

No offense at all, you're the one that has been taking the risk. My goal is simply to let you know the info and the appropriate warning to protect yourself.

I'm not sure anyone outside of DVC upper management and RCI management can truly answer that question appropriately looking at DVC outwards toward RCI. My view looking at the setup and the two RCI products is that DVC is a hybrid. To me I see it as almost 2 memberships within RCI, one points and one weeks. On top of that, DVC has request first without deposit and maybe even request first for points, something that is almost unheard of in RCI otherwise.

Looking at RCI toward DVC, I think it works like any other resort that is an RCI points resort. That means that RCI points members ONLY have access to RCI points inventory and that RCI weeks members only have access to RCI weeks inventory for DVC.

Thank you for the info; there is so much to read and I'm really new to all this.

You can take two approaches as a DVC member, IMO. You can learn the minimum about exchanges or you can set out to learn the two RCI products well. For the average member, it likely doesn't make sense to get into the finner points of RCI for most situations. Those of us who do so can throw in tidbits where appropriate. However, I think that a minimal level of learning is important and that one MUST investigate the resorts thoroughly prior to listing them as choices with a DVC-RCI exchange. For example, if I make an RCI exchange today, I have until the close of business tomorrow to reverse the process, get my money and trade bait back (either a week on deposit of points) and even get my exchange reinstated at the prior spot in line if I so chose. While DVC has the request first option, the other cancelation rules for RCI do not apply and you do not have any option to change your mind.
