Help! Newbie here. I am planning my first Disney trip for my family of 5. We leave November 11th. I cannot wait! I am trying to make sure that I dot all my i's and cross all of my t's with the 3 weeks I have left. One of the items on my "to-do" list is to buy a portable iPhone charger. I am looking for recommendations. I do not have a lot of experience with these chargers but I know I will need one for the parks as my phone will not stay charged the whole day. I need my phone for my touring plans, etc. Any recommendations? Also, any other "must pack" items for newbies?

:welcome: to posting on the DISboards, Becca!

If you're looking for something you don't necessarily have to carry around as an extra, I recommend a Mophie case for your phone. Not sure if they have it for all styles yet (maybe not 6s, for example), but I have one for my iPhone 5 and really like it. You can usually find a groupon deal for it as well. I've also found it is fairly durable as a case. I've dropped my phone on concrete several times with no issues other than banging the case up (cosmetically) a little.

I hauled a portable charger on my last trip, and that did OK here or there for charging at lunch and so forth. But now I've switched to a battery pack case and that has made life so much easier, both for vacation and life in generation. The case I have provides 150 percent of my normal battery life, so that's pretty much 2.5 batteries. Should be good for park days.

I've been using this Patriot Fuel+ for several years:
http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Dual-Port-Rechargeable-Smartphone-PCPB90002/dp/B00DWPMU12/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1445265636&sr=8-1&keywords=Patriot+Fuel+

The number to the right is important with all these batteries - 9000mah for this one means it has about 9000mah capacity - If you phone's battery has a 3000mah battery in it you'll get about 3 charges out of this one. Generally I find I only need about 1 or 2 full charges so a smaller/cheaper battery might be a better fit for ya (although I find I also end up "giving some juice" to my sisters phone, my mom's phone, my uncle's phone...)

Also the bigger the battery the longer it takes to recharge it at night!

Another thing to consider is the charge connector - The one I've linked has 2 - a 1a and a 2.5a. These denote, basically, how "fast" the battery can be charged. 1a is the standard but if your phone can handle the 2.5a it'll charge 2.5 times faster than the 1a. (Most current smartphones can do 2.5)

All those mentioned are good choices. They also make ones that run on AA batteries which are great in an emergency and have batteries handy.

Agreed! I had a Mophie for my iPhone 5 and adored it. When I got the 6, I purchased one of those little stick things instead. It works well enough but it charges a lot slower, and requires a USB cable to do so. Even with the shortest cable, it's still a lot more cumbersome than the Mophie and made getting my phone out quickly for photos etc a lot more difficult. Sure the Mophie is an investment, but to me one well worth it, and I am buying one this week for our next trip. It is just great to have for trips, concerts, anything like that. You can charge your phone right in the case with the cable they provide, and it charges the phone and case at the same time. I have had no issues with it technically or cosmetically either. If you look around, you can often find rebates on things like iBotta and eBates for Best Buy which is where I get mine due to the deals. Highly, highly recommended.

I have a Mophie that has the cables built in. I've bought some cheap ones on Amazon that just didn't hold up and decided instead of replacing my $20 every other month I would just buy the $70 Mophie power pack. The good thing about the Mophie too is that if it is discovered it breaks my charger port for any reason it is still covered by Apple. Some 3rd party ones are not so if your phone messes up Apple can charge you full price even with protection if they figure out you were using an unauthorized 3rd party charging device.
