We are going to WDW in December. We have an 8:05 a.m. reservation at GF for breakfast. We are heading to MK after that. We will have a rental car. I'm assuming that our fastest transportation route will be to go ahead at park at TTC and hop on the resort monorail. However, is the resort monorail guaranteed to be open (aside from technical difficulties)? I'm just worried that we'll get to TTC and be "stuck" there.

The resort monorail starts running at around 7 AM, so you should be fine. You can walk from the TTC to the GF. Figure around 20 minutes or so, perhaps a bit longer.

Is it possible to walk from MK to GF? That seems like it would be shorter than walking from TTC.

No unfortunately. Too bad though-they are pretty close. There would need to be a full path, and more imprtantly some sort of bridge to walk over the little "canal" (not sure what to call it) that is part of the lake in the corner between the Mk and the GF.
