Best Places to Eat at Hollywood Studios?

Sci Fi really is a cool experience and the food is pretty good too!

DH and I are thinking about going to 50s PT with the boys on our July trip, for lunch one day. We will be at DHS 2 days, and I know that one day the boys really want to go to Toy Story Pizza Planet for lunch (they love that movie and we liked that place last time...FYI, I did not eat the pizza, I got the chicken salad and it was very good.).

Still not totally sure though, but we still have 3 months until I have to make our ADRs! We will be on the DDP so 50s would be an OOP meal for us, which is fine since the prices are very reasonable, especially at lunch. Plus we could just get entrees and skip the dessert, then use a snack credit for a nice dessert at Starring Rolls. The alternate plan would be to use one of our CS credits and go to Starring Rolls on the second DHS day. That one looks the most appealing out of the CS places, although the Backlot seems like it might be decent.

I have also looked into Sci-Fi but I hear the food is not such great quality, plus I am not sure if it would be too dark for my boys (they will only be 3 and 5 when we go). So we will save that one for a future trip when they are older and maybe more into the atmosphere there, if at all.

My nephew and I always make a point, he insists, to stop at sci-fi and get milkshakes. Food is not bad either.

I think it all depends what you're after... I *personally* don't want to pay the table service prices if I'm not going to enjoy the food as well as the atmosphere.

As far as food quality, I have to agree that Brown Derby is incredible. It's not cheap, but the quality is worth it to me. I also enjoy Mama Melrose, but I can see some people being turned off by what I remember being on the menu.

Counter service is nothing special. I usually stick to Backlot Express and grab a hot dog there. I think that, with fries, plus a drink is around $11... kinda pricey for what you get.

Just curious, why would 50sPT be an OOP meal? It's on the DDP. Am I missing something? I ask because we are eating there in Dec. and plan to us a TS credit.

They have more meals planned than dining credits, so they will have to pay for some meals OOP. The prices at 50's are reasonable at lunch, so the poster decided to pay OOP there.

Follow Up.....We went to 50's PT and it was fun! I had the fried chicken and my hubby had the meatloaf. It was all good. Although the meatloaf portion was quite small. I shared my chicken since I had plenty. We split a dad's brownie sundae and it was loaded with sprinkles, carmel corn and m&m's topping it. Wow! Sugar overload.

We got an A on our homework! :thumbsup2

I'm really glad we went and it was really neat place. :)

Thanks for all the shared info from everyone. The sci fi looks pretty cool sitting in those cars, so maybe we will go there on a future visit.

We really enjoyed H&V and Sci-Fi is definitely a must-do experience! Great burgers too :thumbsup2
