Hello all! So DBF and I have a trip coming up in roughly 3 weeks! We are planning on having one break day in the middle of our trip and want to do a good big breakfast we seldom ever get. So we are hoping you DISers could give us some advice on what to possibly try! Just one thing, no restaurants inside the parks.

You need to research what still may be available. 3 weeks out is extremely short notice for a restaurant at WDW

Buffet/family style, or off a menu? Characters, or no?

Some places to look at: 'Ohana at The Poly, Boma or Sanaa at AKL, Bon Voyage breakfast with characters at BoardWalk. Chef Mickey's or The Wave at CR.

Boma! It's great!!

I also really like the Grand Floridian Cafe (lobster eggs benedict, yum!!) and Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge (banana bread french toast is amazing!).

Will do, we were trying to do an easy go with the flow day which is why this is very last minute. I got all the other ADRs done, this was just "maybe" and now a "definitely."

We're open honestly. But DBF would probably perfer family, on menu and no characters.

I'll check these out! Thank you!

The Wave!!! Buffet and menu, food really good, should be easy to get an ADR still, and super easy to get to.

Boma first - absolutely our favorite
Kona next - we love Kona
Trail's End - excellent Buffet and very inexpensive
Bon Voyage on the boardwalk - great food and great meet and greet.

Our favorites are The Wave, Whispering Canyon Cafe and Grand Floridian Cafe. We usually decide which one to go to depending on which DVC resort we are staying at.

Our favorites:
Kona Cafe - I dream about the pineapple-macadamia nut pancakes and the pressed pot of Kona coffee
The Wave - a great, low key buffet with the option to order off the menu (also offers a pressed pot of coffee)

In no particul order....

1.) Boma. Animal Kingdom Lodge is magnificent. You don't have a view from inside the restaurant, but the animals are on the Savannah by the time you're done eating and AKL is very accessible for viewing - perfect for a non-Park day.
2.) Cape May or 1900 Park Fare. I like Goofy, so Cape May is my preference, but I can make a case that Grand Floridian is a better stroll for a non-Park day.
3.) Sunday Brunch at CA Grill or Narcoossee's. CA Grill may have the better view from above and longer menu (with the partial buffet), but Narcoossee's offers sitting along the Bay Lake and watching the boats come/go to/from Magic Kingdom. Priceless.
4.) Gospel Brunch at House of Blues. The music may be more enlivening than any cup of coffee.
5.) Fresh (inside Dolphin). The best value if you enjoy fresh juices (i.e., carrot, wheatgrass, pineapple, etc.) along with a very good buffet. Frankly, my wife drinks $16 of juice before getting to the hand-carved meats and eggs made-to-order (Mickey waffles made to-order too).
6.) Kona - I believe it's still the only place for a pot of French-press coffee. Folks rave about Tonga Toast.
7.) Bon Voyage at Trattoria al Forno is getting rave reviews, but I've not been (yet) to recommend.

My votes are Boma (AKL), Narcoosee's (GF), CA Grill, Kona Cafe (@JZCubed, I think there are others that do French press now but you can get Kona coffee here, mmmm) if you want a purely character-free experience.

Despite your BF wanting to be character-free, these character meals are actually worth a try if they are available on such short notice:
1900 Park Fare (GF) - decent food, buffet, fun but not overbearing characters
Bon Voyage at Trattoria al Forno - just ate there on Monday - it was terrific! The princes are actually hilarious and the food is very good.

@JZCubed - Fresh is the only breakfast I'll bother with at WDW because of the juices. Its also cheap as a recall. I'm not a huge fan of buffets, but that one is actually very well done.

A lot of Dis'ers don't get to the Swolphin - its a lovely property to breeze through. You might also consider their pool bar - Cabanas - it has couches and a very loungy vibe with surprisingly great food. Their tuna poke and calamari are quality. I mention it often. Its a great place to relax with a cocktail.

Another one who loves Fresh at the Dolphin, it's actually the only TS breakfast I'll eat at. I'm also not a fan of buffets but they have a really good egg station where they cook whatever you want and do have an ala carte menu. I agree the juices are excellent.

When we first started staying at Swolphin, we had to find a comfortable spot for us to be with our infant. Cabana was just the best poolside experience for us. And I made a 'friend' with one of the 'cabana boys' when I recognized him working at another restaurant. He was our Server last summer at yet a third establishment. The other customers must have thought we were cousins or something - turning my child's early evening frown up-side-down - as we reminisced about restaurants that had come and gone.:charac2:

Cheap breakfast at Fresh? I think about $25, but they take DVC for 20% discounts.

So, after the discount, plus the tip = $25 for what you & I both believe is a superior breakfast at Disney.

Yes, there is the juice bar - and that alone can add up to $20 if you take even a few of those shot glasses they place on the counter.

Then the carved breakfast meats along side the made-to-order eggs, pancakes & waffles (with your own omelette fixin' station).

Like you, I avoid the buffet which consists of wasted-calorie breakfast pastries (like what they have at Be Our Guest), but my child eats a bowl of cereal (that her mother would never allow in our house) - and we don't get charged for that.

And the critical element for us - is the coffee any good (which means dark roast to us)? It must be, because we enjoy going back.

But I am looking forward to trying Bon Voyage just once....CA Grill Brunch too (the pricey sushi is on their buffet) to kick off Christmas Eve with my child that has yet to learn the secret of Santa. We're going to these 'extra' breakfasts because a.) my wife likes brunch, and b.) we're focusing on nighttime events with the child (who seems to turn into a pumpkin just past 9pm).

If I can luck into a spur of the moment CA brunch reservation, I'll definitely take it. My life isn't really suited to planning a little WDW jaunt in more than a few weeks. I don't know what city I'll be in a half a year, more or less planning a quick 4 dayer at WDW. I'm seriously considering WDW in latish Sept. Not certain yet...lol. I have good luck with last minute ADR's so CA brunch may be mine soon:)

I'm the same way, don't plan ahead. I'll be there the week of Sept. 18.
