We will be on the Wonder cruising from Hawai’i to Vancouver in February. We will also be staying at Aulani for a few days pre cruise.
Where can I find the best whale watching?
Our stops include
  • Nawiliwili, Hawai'i
  • Nawiliwili, Hawai'i
  • Kahului, Hawai'i
  • Hilo, Hawai'i
Thank you

We stayed at Aulani in December of 2022 and booked a Sunset Cruise with Ko Olina Ocean Adventures. We saw lots of whales breaching and many dolphins as well. The cruise was on a catamaran and included light hors d'oeuvre and 3 drinks. Price was a little over $100/ person at the time.

This cruise departs from the Ko Olina Marina which is a short drive (or a long walk) from Aulani. We highly recommend it.

In Maui, Pacwhale eco-adventures offers whale tours that are pretty fantastic. We took them last February and we saw so many whales. I recommend them. That time of year there are whale sightings all over the state. I took the Wonder last time from Hawaii to Vancouver and saw whales close up on this tour and saw whales in Hilo bay as we were sailing out on our way to Vancouver.

Another vote for Maui, but any island will do in season. They typically get a ton of whales that swim between Molokai and their island as it is shallower there. During whale season you don’t have to book it specifically necessarily - we’ve seen them anytime we go out on the water for snorkeling and sunset sails as well. You can also see their spouts from land - definitely recommend a good set of binoculars if you’re an animal lover! :)
