I would love some help here... We're not planning on doing any expensive meals in this park ~ however, I'd love some suggestions on where to go for a good counter service meal? I have thought about Rainforest Cafe for lunch??? Prices don't look too bad... both kids are under twelve ~ so they could order off the kids menu. Also ~ are there any great, not to miss snacks in this park? Thanks everyone! :grouphug:

We enjoyed Tusker House for lunch. We all had the rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. They offer this in a kid's meal as well, which is nice, if you don't always like to see your kids eating chicken strips, mac n cheese or hot dogs everyday while on vacation. My whole family enjoyed it, it seemed much more like table service food, rather than counter service.

We enjoyed Flame Tree BBQ, but make sure you eat at a covered spot, or a bird may garnish your plate for you.

I have to vote for the Flame Tree BBQ! It's my favorite counter service at Disney. You can't beat the ribs.

I have to vote for Flame Tree BBQ as well. There is a wonderful seating area behind the building right on the lake with an awesome view of Expedition Everest. Have a great trip!! :goodvibes

Flame Tree BBQ -- 2 votes here... I loved the pull pork, corn and bbq bean platter! YUMMMY

Flame Tree Barbeque is awesome! I love the barbeque chicken salad! It is soooo good!!! :thumbsup2

Meals at the Animal Kingdom ...

For a character breakfast Restarantosaurus is nice. If your reservation is before park opening time, as ours was, you will be admitted to the park early and shown to the restaurant by a cast member. The grandchildren enjoyed it.

For counter service we like the Flame Tree. The tables down by the lake are nice, and the view is interesting. The food isn't bad either.

For a table service meal try the Rainforest Cafe. Kids like it. The only problem we had with this restaurant was the rather long wait for a table in spite of the fact that we had reservations. I suspect that may be standard practice in order to make for more shopping time in the gift shop. Still, the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom did a much better job of honoring reservation times than the other Rainforest, located at Disney Downtown, where the wait was unreasonable.

Enjoy.

We usually visit Animal Kingdom twice. Each time we try Tusker House and Flame Tree. At Flame Tree we like to sit in the back near the water...what a wonderul and relaxing area. Also, Tusker House is great for cooling off and sometimes you can see the African Drummers near there. Both places you can't go wrong.

We always eat at Flame Tree also. Last year we ate under one of the shelters by the lake and a boat came by with all the characters. In fact it circled around at least two times and you could see them all really well. The kids around us couldn't eat for waving. It was fun!!

We have had great breakfasts and lunches at Tusker House. We've also really enjoyed Donald's breakfastsaurus (TS) and love Boma (TS at AKL)

I know I'm in the minority here, but for me, you can't beat the hot Italian sandwich at Pizzafari. I've eaten at "the big 3"-Tusker House, Flame Tree BBQ, and Pizzafari, and Pizzafari wins, hands down, for the best combination of food and atmosphere. And for snacks, you can't beat the frozen lemonade in Pizzafari on a hot day.

I ordered a fantastic chicken ceasar salad at Pizzafari yesterday. It seemed freshley made with lots of chicken and crutons.

I've also had good chicken at the Tusker House.

I prefer Tusker House over the Rainforest Cafe.

We ate twice at Restaurantosaurus, once during week 1 with my parents and again during week 2 with my sister and her daughter. Good value for a quick lunch. I particularly like the toppings bar where I can load my burger with sauteed onions and mushrooms!

I haven't dined at Pizzafari, but the smell is soooo incredible! I was out-voted last trip. I'm going to make a point of going there next time.

flame tree. even if you don't end up eating there, take 5 and step into the seating area. it's one of the most incredible dining areas on WDW property. rainforest is overpriced tourist garbage IMO. when it's too hot, we carry flame tree meals to pizzafari for the A/C. pizzafari has some pretty awesome breadsticks for a midday snack as well. and wife is addicted to the frozen strawberry lemonades.
