I read that there are three Savannah areas, and each Savannah has its own unique look and feel. Not all Savannahs have all the animals.

When requesting my room, is one view more desireable than another?

Thanks.

We have always stayed on the Arusha Savanna, which is directly in the rear of the Lodge. Arusha Rock is located there. We always saw several animals in this savanna at various times of the day.

You will get lots of different answers about this. We have stayed on the Uzima Savannah (down the Zebra Trail) and loved it. We have requested Sunset Savannah for our December trip. Arusha is the largest of the three (which puts it in third place for us, we like the smaller savannahs.) You will only see zebra on Arusha, Ostrich on Sunset, and I know Uzima has something unique to it, but I don't remember what it is. Giraffe roam on all three.

Even if you don't make any requests at all, I think you will be fine. One suggestion I do have is that you request a lower floor, maybe the third. You can see more of the savannah on the upper floors, but then you are looking DOWN at the animals instead of out at them. Also, I think there could be some issues with mature trees on the upper floors.

I stayed in Sunset last month and I saw several different types of animals, giraffes, ostrich, pelicans, another kind of bird that I dont remember the name of, and also it was something that kind of looked like wildabeast, but I can't remember the name of them either, and they slept right outside our room a few nights!

We have stayed at the AKL five times. Three times with savanna view rooms. We had Arusha Savanna views twice and prior to our stay this past Jan I would tell you that the Arusha Savanna is the best. This past trip we had a view of the Uzima Savanna. While the views are different and so are the animals the Uzima view was great. If you want to see Zebra then request Arusha but don't panic if you get the Uzima or the Sunset.

Would it be totally worthless to stay at AKL if you could only get a standard view room? As a FL resident, we can get an awesome deal on a SV room...a pool room would cost us about $25 more a nite....

I have heard that even with SV rooms, you can always walk the grounds to see animals...and there is always a possibility of an upgrade upon check in????

What are your thoughts? We are reserved right now at POFQ...but could stay at AKL for the same money (with a SV room, that is!)

Thanks!!! :wave2:

Cambra -

While I don't know the answer to your question, as this will be our first trip to AKL. I will say this, we stayed at POFQ last year, and while it was "nice", I was NOT overly impressed. I was hoping for "more" since it was a moderate. It was a letdown for us. The only thing in our opinion that was "different" from the values, was the pool had a slide and there was a hottub. That was pretty much it. SO, in my humble opinion, if you can stay at AKL for the same price, I wouldn't hesitate at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy!!!

We prefer the Zebra Trail area which is right by Arusha Rock. See a variety of animals there. The other savannahs are nice but my DS and DH really like the bigger animals.

There are tons of viewing spots at the AKL that aren't just the balconies at the room. Even though we always have a savannah view room we walk to the end of the U each time and view animals there as well as all along the way. There are some large viewing areas, also on the third floor which overlook Arusha rock. They have rocking chairs and everything. Plus, you can go down by the pool area and there are "outpost" areas where you can talk to guides and see the animals. One trip we were in the hot tub watching giraffee eat from the tree right behind the hot tub. Can't beat that for being close to animals and comfortable at the same time.

There are many more savannah view rooms than standard rooms. So often on the board we hear of people being upgraded. I think you will like the AKL -- quite different than the zoo ernvironment and the kids activities can't be beat.

If you are truly going to pay the same price for your room at POFQ as you can get with a discount on AKL go for AKL. Even if it is a standard view there are plenty of places throughout the resort to see the animals. Another option would be to see if you can get a FL resident discount on your room at POFQ. You must be paying rack rate if it is the same as a discounted rate on a standard view room at the AKL.

Yes, Tiffany, you are right...the rate I am paying at POFQ is rack rate...they didn't have the FL rate available for me...wouldn't ya think EVERY FL resident can get a FL rate??? Guess not, they only have a limited # of FL resident rate availablities....go figure....

But AKL does have the FL resident rates available...which is why they are almost equal in price for me....see my dilema!!!!!!!!!

Arusha Savannah, overlooks the Zebras and Arusha rock. Some of the most coveted views are on this Savannah.

Uzima Savannah, closest to the pools and Restaurants (with exception that some of the Arusha Savannah rooms are as close)

Sunset Savannah, the farthest away (but a short walk) to the Restaurants, Giftshop and Pool.

We've been in rooms that overlooked both Arusha Uzima Savannah.

Uzima and Sunset rooms are a bit quieter.

Arusha is my favorite. Just can't get enough of those Zebras!!!

In that case no dilema. Go with AKL. I would never stay at a moderate if I would get a room at a deluxe for the same amount. Go for it.

We were on the Uzima Savannah, in a hallway of only 6 rooms (actually 3 rooms because the hallway splits right and left, 3 on one side and 3 on the other). I have to admit that these were the quietest rooms we have ever had at any hotel, ever. It was awesome. The only noise we heard were the animals outside (which isn't really noise). If you are looking for quiet, the Uzima savannah is definitely the way to go!!
