Best painless "stretching things" budget tips?

Right, and thank you for pointing that out. I *did* state if it's not really necessary. I have read some suggestions earlier that I could have made comments about also, but kept them to myself. If you want to encourage people to post suggestions and ideas, may I suggest that it is best not to post snarky comments or 'witty' responses, and I would also like to point out there are plenty of people who don't happen to live in S FL that read here.
I guess I'm done contributing...See ya!

it TRUELY was a joke. I am sorry you were offended. I am sitting here very hot and sweaty with a fan and air on(and have NO WORKING AIRCONDITING in my car right now) so I DO drive with no air daily until it gets fixed!

TRUELY a JOKE - sorry

jmtf2004 I did send you a PM as well. Sorry you were offended, really. The reason for the post saying it was not meant as rude laughter was to avoid hurt feelings.....guess it didn't work :worried:

Chicklogic, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the comment you made. It was just a cute remark about the need for air-conditioning in the hotter parts of the country. I don't know what anyone could find offensive about it. You were not criticizing the poster in any way that I could see.

Just don't forget to clean the filter or buy a new one. I rinsed mine out and still had a whole bunch of lint on it....so I used a lint roller and it worked great!!

Here's what I use instead of a store-bought package of taco seasoning mix:
1 Tablespoon corn starch
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon sugar
Combine seasoning mixture with 1 pound browned and drained ground beef (or turkey) and 3/4 cup water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
I mix up my own packets in advance to make taco nights easier. It's nice to be able to control and adjust what goes into it for your family's tastes. I need to measure the amount of one packet so I could make one big batch and know how much to take out for one recipe. I haven't done the math, but I'm sure this would have to be a fraction of what some of those packets at the store cost.

Thank you so much for this happycampers! It was wonderful and I already had all the ingredients on hand. I made a double batch and figured out that 3 TB of the mix for a pound of meat worked out perfect. I really appreciate this and I am delighted to use my spices up. DH thought it rocked!:goodvibes

do you hvae to have a bread machine?

I've been sneaking the thermostat up on my husband - from 74 to 80. He hasn't even noticed.

I move it up to around near 80 when I leave in the morning, I am not sure if that helps....having the pool has increased it. Our electiric bill is over $400 a month and I would love to get it down.
