best night for palo or remy?

Would anyone happen to know what the scheduling is for events and parties (such as formal night and the pirate deck party) on board the ship during the Western Caribbean Very Merrytime cruises? My hubby and I will be going in November, and were wondering about which night would be best for booking Palo or Remy.

fantasy formal night is On Sunday night, semi formal night is on Thursday night. Sometimes it could change if your cruise has a holiday in it.

We have seen the pirate night party so many times and we don't love the pirate night menu, so we do Palo or Remy on Pirate night.

I would go the evening you are in AP the first time. I cannot stand that menu, and it was just reinforced for me last week on board the Dream. It would be the same menu the very first time you are in AP.

So, just because you don't like the menu, everyone should avoid it?

I always say everyone should give the MDRs a try their first cruise and save the extra pay venues for when they decide which menu they want to avoid. Sadly, I've not gotten tired of the MDR menus yet (yes, after 11 cruises). But we had done dinner at Palo twice, most of the time we do brunch.

Plus, obviously it's only my opinion, and I see a ton of people saying to avoid the pirate menu, which I don't understand, since there are great items you don't see otherwise (this is about opinions, right? ). But you are correct in theory, everyone should try all the menus once, so it's hard to choose. We have done Palo every cruise, so we must have missed a menu our first cruise (although I don't recall which one that was). All I remember was that it was our second to last night on a 7nt EC, and i was too full by that time to completely enjoy the food. So my other opinion is to not eat at Palo or Remy too late in your cruise if you tend to get food overload on vacations.

Yeah, our first dinner at Palo was on our first cruise. It was a 15 night cruise and I don't know what menu we missed. I didn't worry about it then (or now).

And I liked the old Pirate menu better than the one they have now. But I can't give up dressing up in pirate gear to go to Palo instead that night.

We are the opposite. We don't do the pirate dress up, although we enjoy the deck party and fireworks, so we usually do a Palo date night dinner. On the longer cruises with a formal night earlier in the cruise, I'll wear my tux a second time, replacing the bow tie with a colorful red and black Disney necktie and using the provided pirate neckerchief as a pocket square (my one concession to the pirate theme).

First night is also nice because it's not crowded. Really, I think the best course of action would be to look at all the MDR menus and go the night that the main dining least appeals. We are foodies so always prefer Palo/Remy to MDR, but there are some great options in MDR that you might not want to miss.

Only other than Pirate Night or Night One with a request for a specific MDR you want to miss - and hoping the request is honored - you don't know which MDR or menu you'll be skipping on a given night.

Neither of us have seen the show, but in all honesty, I would only be upset at this point missing fireworks (which I read we can see from Meridian so no worries there).

I guess what I'm wondering is, is there any reason that I should look to rebooking for another night instead? I know that we're first time cruisers and it's recommended that we see everything at least once, but I literally have 0 idea as to what Pirate Night entails, and if it's worth the hassle to try and rebook once on the ship since online reservations are all booked.

Well, you could probably change your reservation, once onboard. DCL holds back a number of Palo reservations for booking onboard. If you want to change nights, I'd suggest you head for the Palo dining changes desk once onboard to see to doing so.

I think it's good to experience all 3 restaurants in the rotation. I'm also glad we broke it up a bit. Every night in those restaurants would be a bit boring. Lots of folks bag a night and go eat at Cabanas just to change it up.

Hmm.... 11 DCL cruises and still haven't made it to Cabanas for dinner. We're not tired of the Main Dining Rooms yet. Don't know that "lots" of people skip the MDRs for Cabanas.

No, usually Formal night (on those cruises that have it) is typically the first sea day (generally the second day on the cruise). Captain's Gala is usually semi-formal night on those cruises that have it and it's usually like night 6.

We used to try and guess what night we wanted to enjoy dinner at Palo. Now we just wait until we board and make a reservation. Have not had a problem with availability and then you can decide which night works best for you given your particular dining rotation, pirate night, formal night, etc.

Any night. We go to Palo and MDR so we can try a little of the menu and meet up with our kids for a dinner.
