We are planning on trying HH for the first time and will either be travelling at Easter time, May, June/July or October. Which is the best month for weather and a not too crowded beach? Also, I get eaten by bugs!!!!

I have only been there in March and June(first week of June), and March was iffy weather, as I think April can be.
My girlfriend's family has had a condo in HH for years, and even with it being free she refuses to go in July or August because the island is too crowded, always a wait at restaurants etc., so *I* avoid the summer months.
Don't know about October. The first week of June was perfect, great weather, we had no problems with bugs and while everything was open and there were vacationers on HHI, it wasn't crazy busy. Plus it's the last week before the high season points kick in. :teeth:
If it were me I'd pick May in your shoes.

I've been to Hilton Head twice, once in Dec/Jan and once in early October. So I can't say what Easter and summer months are like, but October was great! It was not very crowded, yet plenty warm enough to swim and hang out at the beach. I guess there's a greater risk for hurricanes during October, but we'd go back each October if we could. Hope that helps!

We rode our bikes to Palmetto Dunes and stopped at their General Store for water. I asked the guy that worked there what he thought the best month was to visit HHI, and he said "definitely October." He said he'd lived on the island for 40 years, so he oughta know what he's talking about.

In case Oct doesn't work for you, I like May. This past year I actually went in April and the weather was beautiful - not too hot, not too cold. The crowds are low during the week and you just can't beat Springtime in the South!

Have fun!!!

We head for the mountains in July and August as it is really hot in this area and even near the beaches. My mom has a house on the front beach near Charleston, and it is cooler there most of the time with the breeze, but HH's beach is different. If I could not be on the front beach with the breeze, I would not go during July or August. Way too hot. May and October are nice as long as you go the first few weeks of October. The end of the month our weather becomes iffy. Most of the time it is nice, but it does change. And yes the crowds are terrible in July and August. There are also a lot more jellyfish during the months of July and August because the water is warmer.

We go to HH every Spring Break and now each August. We just love it so much. April is usually kind with some cool temperatures, plenty to do but DD won't go in the ocean, too cold but loves the beach. Pool at resort is great but crowded as the resort is normally sold out. Noticed last year that April was tough for my DD allergies, pollen must have been a killer. Plenty to do in the area and it is somewhat calmer. Love August for going in the ocean but boy is it hot, just walking on the sand by the dunes in bare feet back to the parking garage can be painfull! Many crowds at dinner but we normally eat early (5-530) avoiding the masses. When we stay late at the beach we just grab something for the room.

Best month for Hilton Head is May through first week of June . The weather is great and points are lower and the island is not crowded yet.
