Was hoping to hear some opinions about which is the best moderate resort.

We are taking our daughters on a last minute suprise trip to WDW just before Christmas. We love POP Century and have not stayed anywhere else in quite some time, and have never stayed at a moderate.

However, for the dates we are going, the moderates are the only options we have. As of now all the moderates are available and an option for us, but we are clueless since we have never stayed at one.

Any thoughts would be great! Thanks!

I would rate the Mods. like this...

1) POR
2) POFQ
3) CSR
4) CBR

They're all great, but I really like the Port Orleans resorts. :)

Oh fantastic! I was just about to post the same question and you've saved me the trouble! :goodvibes

My boyfriend and I are going in October - we'll be staying most of the time at the Beach Club, thanks to my parents DVC points but want to add on a few days beforehand and will need those days to be someplace cheaper. We've stayed at Pop and Music before, but wanted to try the next level up.

I'd love to hear the pros and cons of anyone who has experience of the moderate resorts. Thanks!

and she is at CSR. She calls every morning for a DDU (daily disney update) :) She isn't very happy with this resort. She said the food at Pepper Market is not very good and everything is so far!!! She loves the room though. My favorite is the POR.

i have been hearing that almost everything is booked to capacity!!!!

Our favorite mod it POR as we love the atmosphere. The grounds are lovely, and you can choose between the mansions or Alligator Bayou (we prefer the bayou!). Bus service has never been an issue when going to the parks. It does share a bus with POFQ but that's ok. The main pool; Old Man Island is nice as are the saller quite pools(although not heated..or not as much as the main pool). The food court isn't too far of a walk.

I have heard that the POR resorts are the best of the moderates. My hubby loves the LOOK of Coronado Springs, but I have heard mixed things and that the transportation is not good at Coronado.

CSR has terrific transportation. It doesn't share with any other resort (like POR / POFQ) and it only has 4 bus stops within the resort (vs 7 at CBR). And since CSR is centrally located, you'll have a quick ride to all the parks. And being a convention resort, the buses seem less crowded because guests are busy with their conventions.

CSR is the most central to the 3 parks. See the map below.

My family of 4 has stayed at PO, POFQ & CSR. Our unanimous favorite is CSR followed by POFQ. We like everything about CSR, including the Pepper Market.

If your daughters are under 7, check out the pool theming at POFQ -- our kids couldn't get enough of the dragon's tongue water slide when they were that age, but have outgrown it now at 11 & 12. We all enjoyed taking the boat from PO/POFQ to Downtown Disney.

And as Buzz said, transportation at CSR is superb. Transportation at Port Orleans was very bad when we were there.

We were at CSR the week it opened in 1997, and again just 2 weeks ago. We've not stayed at any other mod resort so I can't compare it to the others, but generally we enjoyed the stay.

We were on the DDP and the Pepper Market is an excellent CS value. (best CS food, by far) We stayed in Cabana 9B and it was by far the BEST location to everything.

Only complaint is that I got tired of all the *suits* walking around off to the conferences, while we were in our goofy swim gear headed to the pool. It would have been nicer to be surrounded exclusively with other vacation go-ers like ourselves.

i'm glad that everyone seems to love POR! thats where my mom and i will be staying and i've never been at a moderate resort.:thumbsup2

POR. It was the first WDW resort my family ever stayed at and we LOVE it. Love the theming, love the peaceful walk thru the beautiful grounds. Love the decor of the rooms in the Mansion section (Never stayed in AB). Now that we have five in our family we have to stay at bigger resorts, but if I was going to stay in a mod again I'd go right back to POR!

Love your site Buzz! You mention under your photo of the waterslide at CSR "NO DOUBLE RIDERS.." Does that include parent/child?

Does Disney have an age/height requirment for the resort water-slides?

Also what are the pool hours at CSR? At POP the pools are always open but after midnight is considered QUIET HOURS. You are allowed to swim but if you make too much noise they kick you out.

Does the water-slide have differing hours from the pool or are they both the same?

Thanks

Does Disney have an age/height requirement for the resort water-slides? No age requirement and you can use life jackets.

Also what are the pool hours at CSR? 8:00am til midnight but with lifeguards and slide working it is 10:00am to 8:00pm. At POP the pools are always open but after midnight is considered QUIET HOURS. You are allowed to swim but if you make too much noise they kick you out. You can do that at the quiet pools as well.

Does the water-slide have differing hours from the pool or are they both the same? 10:00am to 8:00pm.

Thanks so much Buzz. I am asking because it would be a crisis if my two year had to watch her sister using the slide and should could not..:rotfl:

Will it be common to see a dad taking his 2 or 3 year daughter down the slide? Who would tell him not too? A Lifeguard?? LOL Just want to make sure I know what I am in for.. :thumbsup2

Thanks again for all of your awesome info!:cheer2:

I have to cast my vote for CSR. We LOVE the Ranchos 7A section, 3rd floor. So quiet, right beside the elevator and bus stop 3... perfect! We can be at the bus stop within 3 minutes of leaving our room. Because this is at the back of the resort, we have never had crowding getting onto the bus. Buses are very conveniently timed, and we never waited longer than 15 minutes. Pepper Market is outstanding!

To be fair, I haven't stayed at any mod except CSR... and never will if I can help it. My DSIL and family stayed at CBR on our last trip, and I was extremely unimpressed. Buildings seemed piled on top of each other, and resort was extremely spread out.

I think the moderates are the best value on property. They were all built because Disney got a bit silly on costs. They're big, well themed and well-located. A bit spread out...but very nice.

Here's a vote for POR. We stayed there for a week in 2005 and are booking again for Jan 08. Can't wait!!:cool1: :cool1:
