Best Moderate Resort

Buzz, absolutely love your photos from CSR! The photos and your enthusiasm make me wonder if we shouldn't have saved a few dollars and given CSR a try this year. (Can't seem to pull ourselves away from the Poly -- but then again, who can say how hard we're really trying!)
Here's a few more.

Hello, because I haven't found my best moderate resort (look up in thread named "Best Moderate Resort"), I decided to make a manual survey (my favorite mod resort so far is just CSR). For those who love moderate resort or staying in moderate resort frequently, why don't you tell me your favorite/best MODERATE resort? Open the thread named "Favorite/Best Moderate Resort Survey: Help me to decide" and type your favorite MODERATE resort. This is going to be my first experience staying in a mod resort, so I'd like to find out which mod resort is the best one.

I hope you can spend a little time to fill in my manual survey.
Thank you!!!
Kevin

I was trying to decide between POR and CSR as to which would be the best moderate for us. After reading this I'm leaning towards CSR.
Thanks pixiedust:

By the way, I have checked this thread but nobody recommends Port Orleans Riverside. What I know until now is there are 4 moderate resorts (CBR, CSR, POFQ, and POR). Is Port Orleans Riverside not as good as the other moderate resorts? I'll be waiting for your opinions.

That's all for now and thanks (always!),
Kevin

We loved POR when we were there. The theming is absolutely beautiful, and even our parking lot view was lovely and green. The landscaping there is amazing! Boatwrights was really good, and the few things we had from the food court were pretty good as well. The pool was fun for the kids, though they liked the pool at POFQ better, but that's another perk of the resort - because POR & POFQ are 'sister' resorts, guests at either resort can use either pool. The only complaint we had about POR, and it was fairly minor, was that sometimes the buses were already mostly full by the time they reached the main stop, because they stop at POFQ first. We never waited long for a bus, though, except one morning when we were headed to Typhoon Lagoon.

We wanted CSR for our January trip, but since it is unavailable we decided to try POFQ this time, largely because of the things it shares with POR - the restaurant, the lovely southern theme, and the awesome boat service to Downtown Disney. In fact, even if CSR became available, I don't know that I'd change because in January when it is likely to be too cool to spend the evenings in the pool, that boat to DTD will be perfect for ending our days at DisneyQuest.

I love CSR but could not get a reservation for August.

We are trying Riverside in a few weeks and hoping that it will be nice. We were leaning towards CBR, but I have heard some negative reviews so we are trying POR.

I'm hoping that POR will be great for us.

I've only stayed at 2 of the mods, CBR and POR. It's been over 10 years since I stayed at CBR but I remember is being very nice. I just stayed at POR last month, and honestly, I wasn't impressed. There were things I liked, but there were also things I didn't like (the bar, food court, mansions). I won't stay there again simply due to the fact that of the 2 sections, AB and Magnolia Bend, I don't care for MB in the least. I requested AB but still got MB. Won't take the chance.

POFQ is small and nice to walk around, but the food court reminds me of being in high school.

From the pics I've seen, the rooms at CS just don't appeal to me. The dresser and bed headboards just look odd.

The problem with CBR is it has no elevators. Not great if you prefer, and I do, to stay on the top floor. But CSR and POFQ/POR have the same amount of bus stops 4. Also, CSR does not have it's own bus stop at MK in the evening as POFQ does. I've stayed at both and didn't like CSR at all. It's too spread out. We were in Casitas 3 halfway between the main building and bus stop 2 and miles from the pool and hot tub. With POFQ, its all so compact that everything is close. POFQ is the first stop coming and going to parks. In other words you always get a seat going to a park and if not on the way back, you'll be off the bus first.

CSR has always had its own bus stop at each park including MK all hours of the day. According to my pamphlet, the entire walk around the lake is only .97 miles so casita 3 to the main pool was less than a 1/4 mile. No need to be so dramatic.

I've stay at POR, POFQ and CSR and hated the PO's. The shared buses is for the birds. POFQ lacks amenities and you have to walk to POR for everything. Why bother staying there?

I don't think they were being dramatic at all. Just giving their opinion.:confused3

As am I. Saying miles from casita 3 to the pool and hot tub is a huge exaggeration to say the least. It's 1/4 mile at best.

I think by saying "miles" they weren't trying to be literal. I've heard the same complaints about CS. I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday who stayed there on his honeymoon. That was his biggest complaint. He felt like he was walking forever to get from his room to the food court.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say CSR is the same size as POFQ. I would agree if you were staying in the ranchos and having to walk to the main building but not from casita 3 to the pool. Plus, CSR has options, you can ride the little shuttle and/or take the bus to/from the main building. Walking is not the only choice.

Have you ever stayed at CSR? It's the only way to tell for yourself.

This question gets asked all the time, and there is never a definitive answer for which moderate is the best. I have stayed at POR and CSR (will be trying CBR this trip) and in all honesty, I think it just depends on which theme you like the best. Because the rooms, layout and amenities will be pretty much the same. There are some difference in the details, but in my opinion they are all pretty equal. So just pick the theme you prefer.

CBR and CSR...its almost too close to call, but CBR wins for me! Especially if you want a bigger room, CBR's are larger than the other mods =)

This is an old thread but I agree the theming sets each resort apart.

Here is my list of the differences-----

Mod vs Mod

'CBR is 340 square feet and the other mods are 314.

They are basically laid out the same but CSR only has 1 sink (the other have 2 sinks.)
CSR does not have a luggage seat.

Here is the layout of POR:

POFQ is not as spread out as the other mods or the values.

POR CBR and CSR are very spread out.

The mods have pool slides, a hot tub and a sit down restaurant (POFQ doses not have a sit down restaurant but shares with POR.)

POFQ and POR are concidered sister resorts so they share pools.

When staying at one of these resorts you can use the other resort's pool.
You can also refill your refillable mug at either of the food courts.

Some of the rooms at POR in the AB section have a trundle bed and can sleep 5.

---------------------------------------------------------
Transportation.

CBR has 7 bus stops.
CSR has 4 bus stops.
PO has 5 stops. 1st stop POFQ then 4 stops at POR.
POFQ & POR do have a boat to DTD.

----------------------------------------------------------
Elevators

CBR does not have elevators

CSR has elevators

POFQ has elevators

POR the AB section does not have elevators
POR the Mansions does have elevators

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

I stayed at POR aka Dixie Landings and found the grounds to be beautiful, but I didnt really like the rustic look of the rooms (just not my cup of tea, err theming).

The boat to DTD was great though!
