Best method for making a Room Request?

I am thinking that even though it is request & not guaranteed, you have to make sure it even gets to the right person/dept for it to even have a shot at being granted. So, do I phone or fax Member Services & if so, how far out from our arrival date, do I make it directly with the Villas desk? (if so, via fax or phone?) or some other way?

You call MS and ask that it be added to your reservation. That is the best you can do.

You could, closer to the date of the trip, follow up with an an email to MS to confirm that the request is on the reservation, but that is about it.

I called MS with my requests and got them. I heard that they don't read faxes anymore, so calling MS is probably your best bet. I called months before my reservation, but I think as long as it's a week or more, it will be on your reservation and before they assign rooms.

Make your requests with whatever is most important listed first (ie higher floor or closer to elevators or building number etc. etc. ) when you make your reservation or call MS and add it having them read it back to you before you hang up so you know things are noted as you want and then there is no need to take up more of your time or MS's with another call or email to double check.

It is best to not request specific villa #'s because if those are unavailable for all dates of your trip then that will leave them guessing as to what exactly you are trying to accomplish with your request; give details instead with what you are hoping for most at the top of your list. Nothing is guaranteed but sometimes requests may be fulfilled.

Don't bother with faxes. DVC doesn't accept them.

Just add your request when you make the reservation.

After posing a question about where we should request a room here on the DISboards, I called MS and made my request and the CM told me he entered it into the computer. Our trip is in August. I'll update and let you know if our request worked!

I always feel you have the best chance of getting a request when you make it at the same time you make the reservation. I've never added a request later than that, and I've usually gotten my requests. That being said, I'm talking mostly about OKW. I've had NO Luck making requests at AKV.

Alot of times it is just luck in getting requests. If there were few check-outs the day you arrive, there are not alot of rooms they will be able to pick from. It's possible the room area you requested is already full and nothing you can do to get it.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll call MS back & see if I can add on my request. No biggie, if I dont' get it--I'll still be in WDW celebrating w/our friends--doesn't get much better than that!

for me - definitely call MS - if you don't make it when you made the reservations.

then arriving early seems to help. if they have rooms availability you can pick.

Sorry guys...we've been members for several years now and I feel like the liklihood of getting my requests is getting lower and lower. Not just at DVC either. We stayed at POR in the spring for a weekend and I requested Oak Manor or Magnolia Bend. Our room was assigned at the other end of the mansions...furthest away. When questioned they were able to get me a room in the areas I had requested. Now I understand if they aren't there, there isnt much they can do. What I DONT understand is if there are rooms available that DO meet my requests then why didn't I get one of them in the first place???

I've gotten my requests on every DVC trip, and also on all the cash trips I have made over the last 5 years. I think you're just having bad luck.
