Tent Camping at Ft. Wilderness
All campsites at Ft. Wilderness have a "sand pad" area (they call it coquina) and an asphalt driveway. All sites have a picnic table, a chargoal grill on a post, and a water and electric post (The electric post has various types of plugs). I have only used the standard plugs and an outdoor extension cord and a power strip.
Some of the sites also have sewer (full hookup), and some also have cable (preferred full hookup).
Loop 1500 and 2000 are partial hookup loops and made specifically for tent campers and Pop-Up folks.
The partial hookup sites tend to have larger sand pads and shorter driveways. The full and preferred sites tend to have smaller sand pads and longer driveways for the big rigs.
Yes, you can place as many tents, awnings, chairs, tables, etc that will fit on your site and driveway. The only maximums are 10 people.
Loop 1500 has 29 sites and one comfort station. It is centrally located in the campground across from the Meadows Trading Post, Campfire/Movie, and Meadows Recreation Area (Pool/Bike Barn, Canoe Rentals, etc.) Very nice loop. Site 1503, 1504, and 1516 have large sand areas and can accomodate large/multiple tents. Site 1506 is rather narrow and has a tree in a bad location.
Loop 2000 has 60-some odd sites , 2 comfort stations, and is a bit isolated, but nice and quiet. This is a newer loop and the sand pads are really large. Great loop for tent campers and multiple tents per site. However, if you don't have bikes or a golf cart, the loop is a bit remote from the activities at Ft. Wilderness.
Now having said all that, tent campers are welcome to stay in any loop at Ft. Wilderness, but if you want a full-hookup loop, be sure and tell the folks what size/how many tents you will be setting up as those loops tend to have smaller sand pads and more driveway.
Also, if you have pets, there are some loops that are designated "pet loops". However, Ft. Wilderness says that you have to send your pets to the kennel during the day if you are tent camping.
Now some general rules about Ft. Wilderness. No open fires and no tiki torches are allowed at the campsites. You can create a fire in your charcoal grill and you can burn propane stoves and lanterns. Only one car is allowed to be parked at your campsite and you can't drive to destinations "within" Ft. Wilderness such as the boat dock, the restaurant area, or the Trading Posts. There are internal buses, you can use bicycles, golf carts, and two/three wheeled electric scooters. There is golf cart parking and bicycle parking at all of the above mentioned areas.
