Best keeping cool tips

These are great suggestions. As someone that would probably melt completely into a pool of sweat, I have always wondered why anyone would go during the summer months?

We went on a family vacation in Arkansas one year when it was 107 degrees every day (no joke.) When we went crystal digging (actually the 2nd day we went - after we practically burned alive the first day) I went by WalMart and found some of the little ice packets for lunch boxes - these were smaller than the ones you usually see. I threw these in our cooler, then wrapped them in bandanas for the backs of our necks or under our hats while we were out in the sun. It worked well!

I know this wouldn't work for all day at the parks, but if you're just coming back to the park after a mid-day break, you could do it - then just slip the melted ice pack into your backpack to use again later.........and you could re-use your bandana with some ice cubes or just water from a sink or fountain.

Adding to the handkerchief/bandanna idea.... get the bandanna wet, add a few ice cubes along the middle diagonal and fold into a triangle (ice inside). then roll down the triangle down to the point. THEN put it around your neck with the ice at the back of your neck. Stays cool as the ice melts.

I love the ice cube part of this idea! I was planning on trying wet bandanas this year, but love the ice cube idea even more!

we are going in July so I will try some of your ideas. I am worried about my dd10 she usually refuses to wear her hair up in a pony tail but I think one day in Disney she will have a change of heart.

We live in GA where it gets almost as hot and humid as FL, so it doesn't bother us as much. That said, my kids use the wet bandannas and misters alot and we all appreciate an air-conditioned restaurant in the middle of the day. We make our ADR's for lunch for this reason.

I deliver the mail on a walking route and the I try and stay cool on those hot days is a safari type hat or a straw hat. It gives shade all around your head and lets air into the area around the head. Just keeping my face away from direct sun light helps a ton. Plenty of water and washing your face/wrists when you can. The under armour type clothing also helps a lot. I don't feel all drenched in sweat and actually stay dry and cool. I don't buy the name brand b/c the cheaper stuff at walmart/target work just fine for me.

I didn't care for the cool neck wraps, either. I guess in the humidity, the idea of evaporation to cool you just doesn't work. I felt uncomfortable with another thing on my body. So I wear the hair off my neck, a cap or visor for the sun, and wear loose lightweight and light colored clothing. I also use the misting fan, but the mini one, not the big bottle mister. I ordered them a few years ago, from brookstone, I think. (Probably available elsewhere cheaper). I know some folks here like the cool neck wraps, to each his or her own.....

And as to why go in August....well, that's when I can take off work!!!!! Don't ya just hate when earning a living gets in the way of my FUN!?!?!?!?!?

I've purchased 5 CHILL Cooling Towels for our upcoming trip. I'm also taking a hat, a small keyring fan, a water mister fan bottle, cooling bandanas, and a couple of instant ice packs. I can't handle the heat!
