I just returned from the Wyndham Palms Resort and Country Club, which is about two miles from Disney. I booked through hotelkingdom.com. We had a two bedroom, two bath condo with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, 52 inch tv, jacuzzi tub and screened-in balcony - for $89 per night!! This condo was over 1,500 square feet. There was a king sized bed in the master bedroom, two double beds in the second bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. They offered a free continental breakfast Monday - Friday.

The resort complex was very nice with golf course, pools, mini-golf, etc. The building we were in was only two months old - so everything was brand new.

By the way, we did not have to attend any timeshare presentation at this price.

I agree with Antmaril - forget the hotels and go for a rental property like a condo or pool home. Go to http://www.vrbo.com to look at lots of options in the area. We're booked in a 3-bedroom condo at Windsor Palms in November for $90/nite http://www.windsor-palms-resort.com/

Windsor has both condos and pool homes. I've previously rented pool homes in the Lindfields development and would highly recommend that, as well.

You can rent a 5 or even 6 bedroom pool home and have tons of space, a full kitchen, a private pool, multiple bathrooms and multiple TVs. Some even have vcr's, dvd's, and video game systems.

Pricewise you can't beat it, especially if you are splitting the cost with another family.

mousesavers.com has a preferred hotels page with prices that fit your need. Mary only advertises the best & most of us trust her judgement. She's great for honest opinions and always gives out correct info.

Using the Entertainment card discount you could stay at the Hard Rock Hotel for 125.00 or the Royal Pacific for about 99.00. Both are on-site hotels for Universal theme parks and staying on-site allows you to go to the front-of-the-line on all of the rides in both parks. Beats the heck out of Disneys fast pass system. One problem, it will spoil you forever. When we last stayed at the HRH, we also went to Disney , (about a 10 minute drive), and the wait was unbearable for the rides.

The Universal hotels are a good choice, but I don't think I would want to drive back and forth to Disney from Universal. It is really more than a ten minute drive, especially if you hit any traffic, which mostly likely you will.

I just returned from the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal. The Entertainment Rate for a standard room with two queen beds is $110. I think that it just about the best rate you will find. It is a beautiful hotel. I have stayed at all three hotels at Universal and really liked the Royal Pacific. If you have any plans to go to Universal, you should definitely stay at one of the on-site hotels. As the other poster mentioned, you will go to the Front of the Line with your room key. You will be spoiled by this. If you plan to do both Disney and Universal, do Disney first. You will hate standing line at Disney, once you've gone to the front of the line at Universal!!

We are staying at the Embassy Suites in Lake Buenavista in about 2 weeks. We have always had good luck with Embassy Suites. Room enough for my family of 4 (2 t.v.'s) and a great breakfast! We got a AAA rate of $99.00? Anyone stay there?

we only need something offsite for the first week- we will staying at the grand fla when the relatives leave for the following 10 days. so we dont want universal or disney for the first week- just some plae nice and clean and newer and hopefully with a golf package

we are primarily looking for a good golf package with premier courses

thanks again

if you are looking for golf, then my vote is also for Wyndham Palms Resort & Country Club. They are located on the grounds of the Mystic Dunes Golf & CC. My BIL (an avid golfer) said the grounds looked really nice (in fact he stood in the masterbedroom putting as he watched some of the other golfers). If you are staying onsite, I think they discount the fee from $95 to $75. with those rates, I'm sure it must be a pretty nice course. I'll mention going through hotelkingdom.com also for the best rates (around $90ish for a 2 bedroom villa) no daily maid service (since this is a timeshare resort) unless you pay a $35 cleaning fee for each request. this resort appeared to be very new when I stayed in March of this year. If you choose this place, ask for a 3rd floor villa where you will have wonderful views of the course.

I know the Marriott Orlando World Resort is offering a package of $139/nt which includes breakfast for two AND golf! (If you pull out 2 adult breakfasts from the room price ...about $10 apiece? that would be in the price range!!)

It has a really nice pool area for those not golfing!!

Also, I have been seeing some great rates for the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. From all accounts, a top notch luxury resort. I have been seeing $149/nt. Doesn't include the golf though, but I believe they have their own course?

You might want to look into intro. rates at the brand new JW Marriott ...again, I think that runs about $149. Golf is right there and they have a lazy river pool for the kids.

If you HAVE to get it under $125, I think you could get a 2 bedroom trio unit at Summerfield Suites. That is a nice set up for extended family traveling together. We have on 2 occassions stayed there with relatives and they are very good about getting all the rooms right next to each other. You have a living area/kitchen for 'entertaining' each other and some spreading out room.

Good luck, have a great vacation.

thanks for all the replies... the last two were very helpful

they need to stay in the 125 range- the grand cypress has the courses we want to play but the rates for january are in the 380 per night w/golf

what is the JW MARRIOT?

JW Marriott and the Ritz Carlton make up The Grande Lakes Orlando Resort---check it out:

www.grandelakes.com

I think the intro rates are only good through the end of this month though.
Jan rates look to be $300+ just for the room.

Good luck

Have seen many referrals to Hotelkingdom.com on this thread. Has anyone used them, and are they reputable. The rates seem too good to be true!

We used Hotelkingdom for a stay at the Vistana Villages about 18 months ago. We got a 2BR villa for $109 a night with the 7th night free. The cheapest I have seen this year is $189 a night. We had no problems at all and my neighbor used them as well. She wanted to stay an extra night and the front desk said the rate would be $289!

Just some FYI - Hotelkingdom.com does not offer Vistana Villages anymore. When I inquired as to why because we loved our stay there before thru HK, I was told " because their rates were too high". I also got the $109.00 p/nite rate in April 2002. Would stay there again if affordable.

I just plugged my dates for November into hotelmartusa.com for Vistana Villages and came back at the following:

1 bedroom at $121 a nite with the 5th night free

2 bedroom at $160 a nite with the 5th nite free.

I've read just as good of reviews for hotelmartusa.com as I have about hotelkingdom.com though I haven't used them myself. Anyway hope this helps someone.

if i were going to pick a hotel off site to go to universal I would pick the embassey suites on jamacian ct. I think the room is listed as holding up to 8 people .
we stayed there once and were very happy. When you walk into the room you will see a kitchenette with table and a fold out queen sleeper and chair with tv. Walking through the breeze way the bath room sink is to your right and to the left is a private bath. The bedroom has two queen side beds and a tv with closet and safe.
The really nice thing is the full service breakfast in the morning that is free. They have a cook to order omlette bar. all you can eat. And if that were not enough they also have a managers reception every night between 5-7pm . Free alcholic beverages and non as well.

And an even better touch is the indoor out door pool. I have never seen another like it in orlando. The pool is half in and half out of the building. My kids thought it was great.

The hotel is built in an octagon shape. There is an atrium in the middle and all doors from the rooms face the atrium. The view from any of the floor looking into the atrium is amazing. If you can't tell I am totally taken with this hotel. The only reason we don't stay here when we go to universal is fotl other wise this would be the hotel we would use.
