Best Grocery store in your region?

In NH, the cheapest is Market Basket. However, the old Market Baskets are absolute pits and I would not recommend them to my worst enemy. The new ones are cleaner, but they still have the weirdest lay out and the narrowest aisles ever.
Next step up on the price totem poll is Hannaford. I prefer them.
Cleanest and most organized awards go to Shaws and Stop and Shop. Get the reward card at either and the sale prices will be in line with Market Basket and Hannaford. Regular prices aren't so hot.
Most of our Targets have been remodeled to have grocery sections, so that's a pretty inexpensive place to get the essentials.

I am in the Atlanta area. I love Aldi's. I also shop at Publix their BOGOs in addition to coupons can't be beat. :thumbsup2

Ohio & PA, Giant Eagle doubles up to 0.99, and many will take any competitors coupons (including Rolling Rewards from Walgreens). They are the cheapest for sale items & if using coupons. Other than that it is Walmart.

Hands down, Wegmans. I think it it different regionally but around here they double coupons up to a dollar.

I'm a Wegmans girl too. Wegmans doubles any coupon that's under $.99. I don't know that they are the cheapest store in town, but they definitely have the best quality and the customer service can't be beat!

Wegmans will generally be cheaper, they work hard to be that way. Don't forget the Consistant Low Price program, which basically means that's the normal price, not a sale price that will go away in a week. They also have the seasonal CLP program where for the whole season, the top selling 40 or so products go on a price freeze. Maybe that stuff means more to a regular shopper than a one time shopper but still worth a look depending on which location we're talking about.

This is the readon I do the majority of my shopping at Wegmans. They have stores as far South as Virginia. Their customer service is awesome and i don't worry about finding the lowest price because they have it. The Wegmans brand products are also very good quality as well.

Those who believe Wegman's costs more are getting caught up in all the fresh, specialty foods they offer. If you stick w/ their brand, they consistently have the best prices around.

Here in South Idaho, specifically Boise area it's Win-Co. They are locally owned and usually have better prices than Walmart. After that it's of course Walmart. Albertsons is way more spendy but carry higher end products.

Agreed. If you go in and buy all the prepped fruit and the food from the hot bars it gets very expensive very quickly. If someone were to shop for staples (cereal, bread, milk and whatnot) I'm sure they'd find it was cheaper or at least consistantly low through the year.

But that stuff is so pretty! We're in Ohio so mostly shop Giant Eagle, but just got back today from visiting the in-laws in Syracuse and our stop at Wegmans was the highlight of the trip! They do such a great job of displaying items and their specialty breads can't be beat. Love Wegmans, Giant Eagle execs need to go visit a few of their stores for some pointers.

Thanks for all of your replies. For this trip we are hitting TN, KY, MO, IL, WI, MN, ND then to Canada back to MT, then down the west coast and back across NV, AZ, NM, and TX. Now that we splurged and bought the RV we hope to hit the New England area in the spring so most of the US will be covered in the next year. I know we will hit Wal-mart in some towns but at home I don't prefer it so I just like ideas that have good prices other than Wal-mart.
I have heard that we should do all of our purchasing in the US b/c Canada is a lot more expensive.
Now I can add your favs into my trip notes.

Shoprite :thumbsup2 That's where I shop.
They have been voted #1 supermarket 12 or 13 years in a row in our local newspaper "Best of..." contest. Sign up for a Price Plus card and that will get you even more savings.
In all fairness, I have never shopped at Wegmans. :confused3

From what I remember (grew up in WA, travelled to Canada several times) carrying over produce is a big no-no. So you may want to research what you can bring/not bring over the border before you go. I moved to TX in '99 so it's been awhile since I've been over the Canadian border. I'm not an expert... Just offering a heads up.

For quality hands down wegmans. For cheapest probably target. I'll buy perishables at wegmans and most other stuff at target.

At our old house I used to shop at shoprite but the one by us now is disgusting.

My favorite is Pavilions. The new Just4U app is great, I've gotten quite a few items free from in the app, as it tracks your spending and targets deals & coupons for you.

Ralphs is also good for deals, love the 10 for $10 specials. When I'm near my grandma I'll hit up Food4Less for cheap basics (canned goods, pasta, etc). It's a Kroger family warehouse-type store, not the best for produce etc but lots of shelf items are cheaper than WalMart.

On the West Coast, it's pretty much Ralph's (Kroger), Von's (Safeway) and Albertson's. We also have Trader Joe's, Food 4 Less, Costco, Walmart, and Target. I shop at all of them, depends on who has the best sales that week. I usually go to Walmart for basics, though--pasta, bread, yogurt, cheese, etc.

Safe travels! Around here, my personal favorite is Fred Meyer, the Kroger of the west coast (or at least Oregon). They have the perfect mix of excellent produce, a wide variety of natural/organic foods, and good prices. Their sales can be quite nice as well.

If you're headed down I-5 near the California border, I'd consider stopping at exit 14. Shop 'n Kart is just 2-3 blocks from the freeway and is another awesome grocery store. The prices really can't be beat.

In the mpls/st paul area it is cub and Rainbow. Super target and super walmart are also found throught the area. I shop mainly supertarget as it is my one stop shop for everything.
