My son is GF so I am looking for info on the best tasting and most accommodating QS and TS restaurants in WDW that offer GF foods. Hope you can help! Thanks!

We did these restaurants on our last visit, looking to try new things:
Crystal Palace
Hollywood and Vine
Coral Reef (which service and food stunk)
Garden Grill (great chef! so accommodating!)
Tusker House etc
Artist Pointe

I'm going to be helpful and not helpful at the same time so i apologize.

Is it an allergy to gluten? Because on the disABILITIES board, there are always posts going around about best places for people with food allergies. :) maybe you could check out there?

Other than that I'm not sure, :headache: sorry!

I have had Celiac for years and some of my favorite places to go are:

Liberty Tree Tavern ( Magic Kingdom) even got gluten free mac and cheese
Sci-Fi ( I had the artichoke dip and reuben sandwich)
Ohana for breakfast ( great Mickey waffles)
Mama Melrose's ( I had yummy chicken parmesan) Chef said with notice they could even fry something.

I really haven't had any trouble with any table service at all. I also had great luck and the Liberty Inn at Epcot. This would be quick service, but I got a burger w/gluten free bun and fries and another time I got a hot dog/bun gluten free. It was just so nice to be able to order something quick service that included the bun.

let me know if you find it... i found alot of people talking about people who walk in front of their electric wheelchairs... not alot about Gluten...

50's Prime Time is really good. I miss fried chicken and they do a great GF fried chicken. Honestly, I've not had any bad GF experiences. The worst was La Hacienda when they first opened, but I tried them again in May and they were much better. Ok, actually Via Napoli (spelling?) is pretty lacking. Mama Melrose is much better if people want Italian and have a GF person with them. Starring Rolls did good as a QS, but it was anything but QS. It took a really long time because they had to go to Brown Derby to get anything. Ohana is great. They made me all my own wings, salad, shrimp, etc. The Boma chef made me GF mickey waffles since I couldn't eat any on the buffet. For QS, I would say Liberty Tree is probably the best. For TS, Ohana, Boma, Sanaa, Artist Pointe are probably my favorites but I've been on a quest to try them all. :goodvibes For my experience, I would skip Via N. Rose & Crown doesn't have a lot to choose from but they have some and it is really good.

thank you, i just added the prime time my mom will love eating fried chicken!

LOL! I find it's sometimes hit or miss to get current GF details even on the DISabilities board. Personally, I like to see the GF threads here in the Restaurants area! So many more people are eating GF today - whether they have Celiac disease or gluten intolerance and I think it's great for people to know that Disney does a wonderful job of preparing GF foods!

Definitely YES for 50's Prime Time Cafe - their GF fried chicken is fabulous! It's not just good GF fried chicken - it's great fried chicken period!

Ohana did a great job for GF - I had my own chicken wings that were fantastic, and I think I got rice instead of noodles (or that might have been at the Spirit of Aloha luau). As I recall, the salad was okay for GF diners. They also brought GF rolls for me, and I think there was ice cream for dessert instead of the banana cake dessert.

I had a great burger at Cosmic Ray's with a GF bun and fries from the dedicated GF fryer - very tasty! They also do GF buns in just about every CS place. If you ask them about GF, they will show you a huge book of ingredient information for everything.

Tusker House was very helpful - the chef walked me through the buffet and there was very little there - other than the usual suspects like rolls, muffins, quiche, etc. - that I COULD NOT have eating GF. He also made me GF Mickey Waffles, which were okay, but it seemed a bit undercooked.

Crystal Palace was another good buffet for GF - the chef again walked me through the menu, and made me the GF waffles also - more cooked through this time! On their breakfast buffet, they have quinoa which was pretty tasty.

At Hoop-De-Do, they didn't offer a GF fried chicken, and I think most of the other meats were okay. They did a special dessert for me other than the standard strawberry shortcake - it might have been ice cream (can't quite recall). It was still a great meal.

I've heard that the French restaurants aren't too GF friendly. More along the lines of "Well, we do have some salads that might be okay" but nothing where they will make a regular item with GF bread or anything.

I need to look at their menu. I can't even remember what I had at Chefs. There were some options, but not a lot. It was more than VN, but not a lot. Maybe a soup and a cheese plate is what I got. I wouldn't swear to it. Some places, I ordered from the menu and some places, I let the chef be creative.

I find it is harder for me if I'm not super hungry and thinking of ordering something light like an appetizer for dinner. But, in my experience the chefs at WDW see us with food allergies as a challenge and get to prepare something different. They are almost always so friendly and come up with great things. But, the chef we had at Cape May was really close to what I would call rude. Loved the food, not the chef. The one at La Hacienda the 1st time just didn't have a clue what gluten was. Heck, the server didn't understand that my vegetarian friend couldn't eat just a little beef in her food :lmao:. We worked our way through that meal, which was ok but not great. The 2nd time had apparently seen some training in between the trips. The first time, we literally were joking with each other that the chef was probably whoever's turn it was to put on the hat when a customer requested it. It took 3 times for them to get someone because they didn't understand why a meal with a flour tortilla was a problem.

Oh, and who would have thought it but you can enjoy afternoon tea like everyone else who is eating finger sandwiches. They made up my own creation of cheeses, fruits, and "crackers". I mentioned to the chef that I had not been impressed with most GF bread so was worried I wouldn't find anything there I really liked. The texture is just "off" even at the better restaurants. He said he would try something different. He took the bread, sliced it and cut it in mickey head shapes and toasted it. Excellent! It's the same chef as GF Cafe so we had him twice. I think it is Chef Lance? But, I may not be correct on that.

I definitely love it, but know it takes a little longer for your meal there. The chef told me that they prepare it separately and only when ordered so it takes longer than the regular fried chicken and meatloaf meals. It's so worth it, though.

Last trip we did the dining plan and had my parents along (Dad has celiac's). They did the deluxe dining their previous trip, but we mostly ate at different restaurants. (The only ones that were repeats for him were Tusker House and Mama Melrose, so those must have been good if he wanted to do them again)

We did a few meals separate from them, but together we did:
- 1900 Park Fair (both breakfast and dinner)
- Tusker House (lunch)
- Le Cellier
- Coral Reef
- Teppan Edo
- Ohana (dinner, they did breakfast last trip and hated it)

Places he ate that we didn't:
- Crystal Palace (dinner)
- Mama Melrose
- Boma

A chef came out at each restaurant to discuss the menu and offer additional items that could be prepared. (At buffets, they also walk you through). They were all helpful and accomodating, but his two favorites where they seemed to go above and beyond were Ohana and Boma (they even prepared a special 30th Anniversary dessert plate for my parents that was GF :lovestruc )

One note, my parents also had a lunch reservation at GF Cafe (we were at Sci-Fi that day), but when they got there and looked at the menu they felt that there really weren't any options that my dad wanted to eat. They wound up leaving before ordering and were given a reservation for Boma at almost 9pm.

His only previous trip he also tried: Raglan Road, H&V (lunch), GF Cafe (for dinner), CP (breakfast), Akershus (breakfast), Tutto Italia, Tony's, Le Chefs, Chef Mickey (dinner), and Cinderella Castle (lunch). He did specifically mention enjoying Tutto. I believe most of the buffets he just did because they were taking my 3yo niece and she wanted to meet the characters.

Could not agree more. I would like to see the Dining forum have more GF reviews. I's also like to hear more about QS GF offerings. I know TS has been extremely accommodating.

Not sure if you have seen this: http://www.allergyfreemouse.com/dining/gluten-free-at-walt-disney-world-parks/

keep em coming! How about trex in downtown disney or Wolfgang puck express? Anyone have any experience there?

Do i need to call ahead to the 50s prime time, or are we good with just having it on all of our ressies?

No need to call ahead since it is on the ressie. We just mention it again if they don't when we check in. Usually, they see it and ask if it is correct that we have a diner with food allergies.

I haven't tried TRex. WPE does not have a lot of options. It's good and there are some, but not as much as I would like.

One of these days, maybe I'll get around to doing one :blush. I forget about doing them but I've tried a lot of different ones. We have a couple of must do's every trip, but we try really hard to try as many new ones as possible. LTT is really good about GF. They just have you wait until a manager can get to you with the book of options. I usually walk straight up to the CM off to the side so I don't hold up a line to order. LTT even has a really good Amy's Mac & Cheese. Staring Rolls is good, but very very slow. They don't really keep anything in there but will go to Brown Derby to make something. Also, the QS have GF cookies for dessert if you ask. They also keep them for MVMCCP. I didn't expect them to, but I asked and sure enough, they had chocolate cookies that were GF.

Don't give up on GF Cafe. The chef came up with something for me not on the menu. For the life of me, I forgot what but I remember really liking it. Most of the restaurants would tell me several things they could do even if it wasn't on the menu.

Just a quick bump up for today for this thread! Also, I found my old 2010 dining review, which is unfinished, but has some info about some of the restaurants where I ate GF: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2548483

Also, has anyone eaten GF at Tony's ...... and liked what they had? I am so on the fence about this restaurant to begin with, but I thought I'd read somewhere that Tony's was really good about using GF pasta, so you can basically get almost any pasta dish with GF noodles and the sauce. Any reviews? Thanks!

I ate at Tony's and ordered a plain GF cheese pizza. I thought it was very good. I think I also had a salad of some sort. My experience was good.
