Best glue to use on laminated paper?

I am working on a project for my DDs PTA. I will be adhereing either sticks or some kind of rope (Western/Corral theming) to laminated paper. Will hot glue work or do I need to use something else; and if so, what do you recommend?

E600 works and sticks the best. You can get it at hobby lobby.
