I am considering staying at the Poly next year. My mother and Sister will be going and they smoke. Which longhouse would give me the best gardenview but have smoking?

The buildings in the poly that are smoking buildings are:

Fiji
Samoa
Hawaii third floor
Tuvalu

I was in Samoa on the 2nd floor. We had a view of the main pool.
Excellent room and was garden view. Could even see some of the electrical parade from the balcony.

Both Fiji and Samoa bldgs would be gardenviews.
Tuvalu and Hawaii on the north side (facing lagoon)would be lagoon view but the south side would be gardenviews.

Think you would like the Samoa bldg. Very convenient to dock, beach and ceremonial house.

I read there is a "musty" smell at the Polynesian. Important note: I have no first-hand knowledge of this. I do have "first-hand knowledge" of smoking tobacco. It's bad. It stinks. It's deadly.

Smoking tobacco at WDW is like defecating in your living room.

I hope you and yours have very many happy Disney Days in the future. :D

I don't think the poster was asking for opinions on smoking at WDW.

I do not smoke, but my sister and mother do. When we went in 1999 we stayed at the GF and it really was not that bad.
Since we will all be staying at the same resort I would like to stay in the same building. If the smell is too bad for thos of us that are non smokers, we can request a building that is close by the one that accomodates smoking.
Thank you beachbumdb, Samoa sounds like a nice choice.

Helen,

beachbumd gave you the answer you were looking for. For answers to all your Poly questions, even questions you haven't thought of yet, be sure to visit Tikiman's web site - The Poly, the whole Poly and nothing but the Poly........

http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/index.html

BTW, I have no affiliation with this site, I just love the Poly.

Thank you smfnj
You are right Tikimans site is great, so much info.
I appreciate your help

Hello Helen,

Our latest stay at the Polynesian was the Summer of 2001. We are not smokers, however, we stayed in the Samoa building in a GV room. It was #1610. We didn't even know it was a smoking building at the time. The room was on the ground floor with a patio looking directly at the Volcano pool and parts of the marina. It was a great GV room!

We literally could roll out of our room into the Pool. ;)

Have fun!

This information is a little outdated. Currently the only smoking rooms at the Polynesian are all of Nuie, the third floor of Tuvalu, and one floor of one wing of Tahiti (while it is the concierge building).

Once Hawaii opens back up, the smoking optional floor for concierge will be the third floor there. Tahiti will then be non-smoking again. Samoa and Fiji are non-smoking buildings.

Therefore the correct answer to Helen's original question is either Nuie or or the back side of Tuvalu on the third floor.

I stayed at the poly in December 2001

I just called the poly resort.
They told me Samoa just turned into a non smoking bldg
It used to be smoking.

I asked which were now smoking and they confirmed
it is Niu and 3rd floor of Tuvalu

WOW
Thank you for your hard work, I truly appreciate the information you obtained for me.:p
BY checking Tikiman's site, it looks like Niue would be the best bet for us, is seems close to everything while Tuvalu is pretty far away from the main buildings etc.

I work for the Polynesian. So I knew that what I said was correct. You wasted a phone call to confirm what I wrote in my post.

wow...i wish i worked at the poly.....we just stayed there... we were in samoa....loved it...amy

Bianca,
Wow! How awesome it must be to work at such a beautiful resort! I'd sure love to be able to. The CMs around these boards are so helpful with answering questions for everyone, and people like you make Disney the magical place it is! So thanks, from all of us.

As a CM, you probably know that some of the information that gets passed around the DIS is not always accurate, probably because not all of us are as lucky as you are, to be able to spend lots and lots of time at WDW. Generally, its probably not a bad idea to call and check, right? So, while you knew what you wrote in your post was correct, beachbumdb probably didn't know it was, or that you were a CM, she (or he) was just trying to help someone else get the correct info.

I just thought your reply was a little harsh this time, that's all. Maybe the TAG FAIRY (***We need you! Come and visit us here on the REsorts board!) could give you a tag that says "Super CM at the POLY!" and then we'd all know how lucky you are- and to trust your information--and we could all be jealous!

And besides, is it really ever a waste of a phone call to call WDW? I love it when I hear, "Thank You for Calling the WDW Resort" or when the CM says "Have a magcial day!" at the end- always makes me grin!

Anyways, its not really worth a whole two cents, but wanted to say thanks to you, and all the CMs around the DIS, who help make sure we have accurate info.

Have a magical day ;)
