best functional souvenier?

i'm not one for little knicknacks or pictures, i like functional souveniers - stuff that i can USE.

It all depends on how you define USE. Our best souvinier is the 2'x3' poster of our neice with Cinderella hanging above the stairs between floors. We use that every day as a vivid reminder of our adorable neice and a great vacation.

In terms of stuff that has a more mechanical application of the word 'use', it would have to be the leather bomber jacket. Got it on sale at the World of Disney as they were cleaning out inventory. After that, the 'original' Grumpy Miner's hockey sweater with the number 32 on it. A perfect 'fit' on many levels.

I love the Mickey night shirt I bought last year. Also bought a zip up hoodie & mickey neclace. Always buy a few t shirts also. For the girls at work I found
mickey head shaped candles. They were small & easy to pack. Found the candles at CBR shop. :cool1:

We went in April 2003. The most useful souveniers were the 5x7 photos from the rides. My son was missing from the one in Dinosaur. He ducked down behind the seat! That is always a great story because he was 9 at the time!!

I love all the great ideas, makes me think about all the shopping I have to do in November. I usually get a christmas ornament, but this year I hope to also bring home a few kitchen things to help me remember Disney every day. There are also many other good suggestions that are very tempting. Guess I better budget a little more for the souvenir budget. lol

For the kitchen...We love our Mickey Spoon rest that we got on our first trip. We use it everyday. ::MickeyMo

I'm sure this has already been listed, but the bottle straps from the theme parks. I have one from MK and AK, but need to get one from Epcot and MGM when we go back. People always comment on them when I use them back at home. :sunny:

Got my watch on our trip in 1999, wear it all the time. had to replace the battery only once! The shopping in Japan in EPCOT is wonderful!! I collect teapots and there is always one there that I just HAVE to have! l love to collect pens and so I have many packages. My DD brought me back a beautiful blue coffee mug with the Fantasmic! Mickey..that is my morning tea cup. It is HUGE! The last trip with my DGDs I have two blankets from Mexico that they used to keep warm with, two hoodies because I was cold and then gave it to my DD because she was cold so I HAD to BUY another for myself!!
I have gotten alot of good ideas from this thread for our trip next August that I am just going to HAVE to buy!!!

Our disney Tshirts hard to find a family member not wearing one on any given day.

My mousepad with Mickey on it (need a new one of those when I go in a few weeks)

Magnets on fridge.

Tigger magnetic bottle opener tho I got him hangin on wall just cause that was where my old bottle opener was at.

Antenea topper every vehicle all 5 in the family has one. (need new one of those too mine is faded)

Pens did someone mention pens my disney pens are from the resort at check in and usually I find one that was left in the room as well those are my FAVORITE pens of all time and I very picky with who uses them where lol

I bought 2 coffee mugs on my last trip about 6 years ago. They still look amazing and have no chips - very good quality!
I will be buying 2 Christmas tree ornaments with my kids names on each trip per year. This way, we will always have memories of every trip we took as a family displayed on our tree.

We have started a tradition of buying a photo album with the year on it from Disney World for each year we go to Disney. It was the most useful purchase we made souvineer wise.

I got my sister a throw blanket, and plan to get one for us too -- great for the chilly winter times and will remind us of the trip.

Yep! I'm looking at my navy sweatshirt blanket from that little housewares store across from Rainforest Cafe in DTD. DH and I fought over it so much this past fall, I called and had another one mailed to us -- and this one was a pink princess one for me!!

Beach towels
key chain
pens
sweatshirt -- I have a super cozy sweatshirt w/ hood I bought at DL about 4 years ago, at the time I thought it was a little expensive, but I loved it and I was cold! It turned out to be my very favorite swst. of all time! I wear it all the time and it has still held up! Good quality and I've definately gotten my moneys worth. ::yes::

the most functional souvenir i've ever gotten is a goofy watch. it makes people do a double take because it runs counter-clockwise. took a long time to learn how to read it! :smooth:

I have a treasured souvenier from my last trip. I purchased a charm bracelet @the gift shop @resort and bought a charm from each park as well as a few that were special to me (Tink, Jiminy Cricket, Castle, etc...) I ended up with a beautiful and unique charm bracelet that I love wearing and there's not another just like it. I had a Disney Visa reward card that I used only for my charm bracelet purchases so it was a double bonus! I've had so many people ask to see it more closely once they catch a glimpse of what it is. It's really special to me.

i really appreciate all the responses from this thread and wanted to give it a little bump to see if anyone new would like to contribute. now that we have another trip planned i'm looking for more ideas! :thumbsup2

Well my functional souveniers are:

Sweatshirt zippered and hooded (From the Millenium and I still LOVE IT)
Tote Bag
Messenger Bag (comes to work with me everyday)
Key Chain
Antenna Topper
Mickey Mouse watch (From DisneyLAND)
That lanyard thing that you can buy to tie your soda/water bottle in so you can carry it around all day......well I made that into a really long key chain
Photo Album every trip for that trips pictures
New Magnet for the fridge
New Christmas ornament for that year

WHEW....(and thats just the MY souveniers :rolleyes1 )

My most functional souveniers (and most used) are:
Mickey Key Ring from Tokyo Disneyland in 1990 - and still using it 16 years later!
A baseball cap from EuroDisney in 1992 with a mickey silhouette- and still wearing it.
A WDW lanyard - use it daily, has my work keys and door pass on it
Eeyore umbrella -getting a good work out this year - it's rained no stop since Dec 15!
Two glass mugs (with handles from Arribas Bros) with Mickey, the castle and our names etched in them
Boxes of Mickey Macaroni and Cheese to eat at home
An alarm clock -very loud
Shower curtain
Socks
boxer shorts
refillable mug

Functional, but only used for trips or christmas:
Mickey head luggage tags and a luggage strap to hold our bulging suitcase closed
christmas decorations

I bought a Princess jacket in 2004 and wear it constantly. It has a sweatshirt lining with a waterproof outer layer. Unless it drops way below freezing, it is warm enough to wear in the winter too.

I have a CZ / sterling silver Mickey icon that I never take off. I have the earrings too, but they are post and I prefer wires. I do wear them once in a while.

I also have the charm bracelet, although I need to get a new one. One of the rhinestones fell out of mine. :( Ill replace it next month and just move all my charms. Or maybe Ill just make a new one altogether. :thumbsup2

I would love to get a Day Planner type calendar...anyone know if the sell them? Or if they sell refills for standard books?
