....just got a rate of $181 for the cabins during Prez Week. Can anyone recommend best location that is fairly near to bus depot ??

(any pix or other info would be greatly appreciated....::yes:: !)

We have stayed at the cabins for the past two summers. I find location within the loop more important than which actual look.

There are two bus stops within the cabin area. Some of the loops are smaller -2400 and some larger 2700(over 70 cabins). We have stayed in both and each time requested a cabin 2-3 in from the loop. That way no matter which loop, we had a short walk to the bus stop - with two in strollers this was quite important.

I'm sure you will have a great time at Ft.W. We love it!

...okay, so is this too mach to ask:

Which section is the closest to the most things?? (ie: Hoop-de-Doo, petting zoo, campfire, etc)

I will be interested to see what the response is too.

FWIW, I had an extensive conversation about this with a CM about this two weeks ago and he told me that none of the cabins are within walking distance of Settlement Trading Post, Pioneer Hall and the boat launch, especially with two in strollers (we do too). Looking at the map, I'd have to say I agree with him. The Meadow Trading post (the store) and the campfire fire might be within walking distance since they are kind of in the middle of the resort.

We stayed in loop 2500. Second cabin in. Steps from the bus stop and steps from the pool and laundry. This was a recommendation from another diser and she was soooo right. Great loop. I agree its too far to walk to the settlement and if you need a swim vest for any children it was quite a hassle because they only had them at the bike barn.

The cabin loops are grouped towards the outpost. The outpost is where you check in and the entrance to Ft.W.

The Settlement, where HDD, Trail's End, Crockett's Tavern, petting zoo, marina(boat to MK) is at the other end of Ft.W.

Meadow's Trading Post, pool, bike barn and campfire/movie are in the middle.

There are 3 bus routes at Ft.W. The orange bus runs from Outpost to Settlement and back. You will probably never need to be on an orange bus.

The yellow bus and purple bus makes loops throughout Ft.W. To go to MK from the cabins you take Purple bus to Settlement and then walk a short distance to the marina and take boat to MK. This is the same route to catch bus to MGM.

To go to Epcot, DTD, TL, AK, you take Purple bus to Outpost and then transfer to the respective bus.

The buses come quite often and we never had a long wait. Keep in mind that during HDD times the buses and boats are often more crowded.

Because we have a big famiy and 2 in strollers, we end up driving to all the parks except MK. It is just easier for us to hop in the van and head straight to the park. Even better coming home from TL - no riding a bus in a wet swimsuit.

The cabins are wonderful. Check out the "Camping at WDW" forum on the Disboards - tons of great info.

We are also staying at the Cabins during Prez week! I cannot believe what an incredible rate we got!

We also made reservations for a golf cart, through the Bike Barn at Ft. Wilderness. I read on the boards that it is very convenient to have a cart to get around the campsite....from what jengersnap wrote, I'm glad we made those reservations!

I did not make any requests at all on my ressie....Do I need to specify non-smoking? Does Disney actually still have smoking rooms on property?
:D

Hmmmm-that other diser must be really smart. ;)

None of the loops for cabins are really 'walkable' to any of the FW hotspots. Although the loop we were in (2500) was steps from the pool, laundry, and a basketball court. Bus stop was across the street. It was really pretty awesome.

When I made my ressies yesterday for FW cabins, 2/16/05-2/21/05, the CM recommended loop 2500, said it wa nice because the river is behind it & one of the pools was close by. Based on this info & now the info from other Disney fans on this board, loop 2500 seems to be a good choice. I did not know about the location of the cabin w/in the loop. Looks like i will be calling back to make an additional request. Have a Great time. pirate:

She is!!!! This disers advice was perfect for us! :D ;)

I always stay on the 2100 loop. The first time I stayed there it was because it's the closest to the campsites and we had one camping and one in the cabins. It's also the closest to the trading post and to the waterfront, although none of the cabins are really close to the water.

2500 loop is awesome! We were back in 2514, and it still was only a very short walk to the bus, the pool, the laundry.

...we'll be requesting loop 2500, too, although my CM did not make any recommendations to me:( ! (actually, she wasn't very pleasant at all.... )
