Best "free" upgrade you ever got when checking into a WDW hotel?

We booked a standard room at AS-Sports in March 2003 and when we went to check in we were in the third room on the first floor in the bld. closest to the pool/main building...forget which one...it was next to a surf one, but not sure now! Will have to go look at pics! Anyway, it was soooooooooo nice not to have a long walk to get b-fast in the morn or drag back to at night.

We booked a standard view room for about $125/night. When we arrived, we were very nicely upgraded to a Deluxe Savannah View room overlooking the Uzima Savannah. We have also received comp upgrades at CSR and POFQ. We always book a standard view room and hope for the best!

I get a kick out of reading upgrade threads--it makes me feel like the most unlucky Disney guest! LOL I've been loyal to Disney resorts the last 20 years or so and even had my wedding there. I visit one to two times a year on average (3 or more times for several years!) and no upgrades, ever. Oh, and I always travel in "Value" season.

I guess I need some :wizard: pixie dust! :D

AKL standard AP room @ 125.00 per night for 18 days and we got a free upgrade for the 18 days in a savanna room. cant wait to go back!

WL...standard to courtyard view
AKL...standard to pool view
Dolphin...standard to resort view with balcony

Never asked for upgrades. :flower1:

I was wondering too about how this all comes about--seems by what I am reading it must just be Disney Magic....or...do you really ask for them?

While checking in at BC in May 2004, CM advised us we had been upgraded from Garden View to Concierge. :wizard: We graciously accepted the keys, asked no questions :rolleyes1 and beat to the room - right next to the snack room. It was Great! We wondered why this had happened but no one wanted to ask. Was wondering if the building was under rennovation (didn't seem to be) or maybe Mickey finally actually counted the number of my trips. A few days later we found out that John Kerry had stayed there and they had blocked off lots of rooms! What a stir that must have caused the CM's changing rooms! It was a great trip!

We've only been upgraded one time in our visits... at POFQ... didn't ask for the upgrade, but did ask for a NEW room as the toilet in our room was leaking into the room (my daughter was horrified by the smell, and it was Christmas Eve)... started out in a room overlooking the parking lot, ended in a ground level water view room... counts as an upgrade, right?

No I did not ask and would never feel comfortable asking, in fact when the cm at check in told us we were in the Hawaii building at the Polynesian I tried to convince him that he had made a mistake!! No mistake, just overbooked for gv! I don't know if it ended up being a good thing or not, because no trip or resort will ever live up to that one!!

We got an unbelievable upgrade our first trip down with our dd (who was 3 1/2 at the time) in July 2002. We had booked CR standard room for 4 nights. When we got to check-in it was about 9:30-10am in the morning and when the CM showed us where our room was, I was thoroughly confused. We had been complimentary upgraded to a tower room MK view at no charge! Talk about some Disney Magic going on, it was awesome and super special for dd as well as for dh & I not to mention spoiling me for future trips. :)

Our first trip as a family to WDW was in June 2003, it was awesome. We selected to Swan because of the great rate and the location. We really got a god deal.

We are usually pretty easy going and don't complain. However our first day proved to test our patience. My DW was just/barely pregnant with our second child when we went. After a very long day of traveling from Canada we finally made it to the Swan. It was beautiful. When we checked in however I think the CM must have been close to her break because she was not really friendly and kind of curt. Not what we were expecting at all. After a long wait for our room to be ready we were finally able to go in. We first realized that the room had not been cleaned very well (wet towels, dirty glasses and not vacuumed). Not a huge big deal just more waiting with a pregnant lady. :D We also realized that we were right beside the elevator. Hmpf. So we got some supper and finally made it to our nice clean new Swan room. It was nice. However it's about 10:00pm and we want to put our really excited and really overtired 3 year old to bed. At this point he's just exhausted. So we open up the fold out couch and realize that there are no sheets and no extra pillows for him. So starts our first call to the front desk for sheets and a pillow. After 3 more calls and the time reaching 11:45pm there's a knock on the door with pillows and sheets. We were really frustrated and tired. Our little guy had collapsed on our bed. I chalked it up to a crappy first day and we went to bed.

The next morning my son and I woke up and my DW had repacked all our stuff and our suitcases were sitting at the door. I asked her what was going on. With a smile on her face from ear to ear she tells me that we're moving. Huh?? She also tells me that she was up most of the night with noises from the elevator, hall and the room beside us. Bless her heart she should have woke me up so that I could have done something. Anyway... without telling me anything or waking me up she had gone down to the night manager at 3 in the morning to complain about the noise and not being able to sleep. Not whine but just honestly complain. I guess she was so tired and exhausted that she was in tears about 30 seconds after talking with the manager. He was REALLY nice and very sympathetic. He decided to move us to a new room away from the elevator and to a more quiet area. So... my DW shows us to our new room.... It's HUGE!!! My mouth drops to the floor. It's one of the L-shaped suites that's facing Epcot and high enough that we can see the fireworks every night. It was really fantastic and just gorgeous. All I could think of is that we get to spend the next week and a half at WDW and we get to come back to this awesome room. There was no charge for the room change and it had to be a LOT more than our other room. Just for kicks I looked at the back of the door and the rack rate was either $1200 or $1400 per night. Wow! Not bad for $200/night with concierge privileges. This was the start of the day and the start of our really nice vacation at WDW. :D :jumping4: :D

We left a message with the manager who had made the room change for us. What a really nice thing to. We'll never forget it and we'll never forget the Swan. We can't wait to go back.

LOL Misti !!!! You and I are in the same non-pixie dust boat. I've stayed at WDW Resorts COUNTLESS times since 1978 and have never been offered an upgrade. Of course I've never asked for one either, so that may be why :D

Yoohoooo......Yacht Club !!!!!! I'm coming back in March......here's your big chance to cover this 'ol girl who's going to be celebrating her (ugh) 50th birthday in pixie dust. Just kidding. :earboy2: I'm happy just to be going.

On our most recent trip in November/Dec 2004 we got upgraded from standard to courtyard at WL. It was our anniversary. The CM said we were being upgraded and gave us a room where we could see not only the pool but the Electrical Water Pagent too.

I leave for the BC next month--maybe my luck will change!

I don't know if this qualifies or not...In Nov 02 we were upgraded to AKL Savannah from CBR. CBR was being Refurbished and we had our choice of upgrades at the price we were paying at CBR. We paid $99 a night for AKL Savannah. This turned out great because we were all going down for my Dad's Wedding! It did spoil us though, we went again in Nov 03 and DH and I choose AKL again!

We paid rack rate once (GASP!- pre-DIS boards) for a 2 bedroon villa at the Beach Club Villas in Oct, 2002. While checking in, we were told that they had oversold the villas and upgraded us to the Presidential Suite on the conceirge level! It was absolutley AMAZING and so FABULOUS!! It was a room that went for $1900/night (rack rate) during that time and we loved every minute of it! It will never happen again - we're now DVC owners, but it was so magical for our kids' first trip!

Just happened to see this post. That was a once in a lifetime deal.

My story: We were scheduled to go on the second sailing of the Disney Magic. We had one Ocean View cabin reserved to share with my sister
(3 adults). Long story short-the ship was not ready- I complained to Michael Eisner and we got TWO concierge suites on the ship for a later date. The cruise was nice but the Concierge suite was fabulous. My husband and I even got to go up to the Captain's deck and we were given a hands on tour by the captain. We had a private concierge to make all Palo dates, free deluxe room service, arranged spa times, bathrobes etc. The suite was all teak wood and georgeous. Very large rooms and sunken tub in the master bath and separate bath in the foyer. There was a stereo system to die for, a large screen TV, a dining room and a kitchen area. The balconies were tremendous and could sit 8 cmfortably.
Wow I guess it pays to be the squeeky wheel once in awhile. What a blast we had on our Cinderella cruise!

We got bumped up from garden wing to tower at the Contemporary a couple years ago.

We had stayed in the tower before, on a previous trip, on the Magic Kingdom side and just loved it. Standing on our patio looking at the Magic Kingdom whenever we want is hard to top.

This trip was at a peak time, so couldn't swing it to stay in the tower again. But they bumped us up, without us even asking. We got the Bay Lake side and were shocked at how much we loved it too! I honestly can't say which side I like better now. It was so wonderful to watch the water parade and EPCOT fireworks every night.

We got a standard AKL view to save $$, thinking we'd view the animals from the lobby, outside areas, etc. I told my DD that we would not see animals from the room, but just being there would be cool. We checked in and she went outside and said "Mom, you tricked me - there ARE animals outside of our window!!" I didn't know it, but we were placed in a Savanna view room, without asking. Okay, it wasn't on the inner circle, or preferred area (it was off on the side) but we still saw enough animals every morning to make our stay really great! And we had the coolest mousekeeper. She would arrange DD's stuffed lion almost every day in comical ways. One day, we came home and found "Simba" watching cartoons from the beds with his paw on the TV remote. One day he was sitting in the (dry of course) shower with a showercap on his head and a towel nearby. SO CUTE!!! It was a joy staying at the AKL!
