Best foreign language learning resources? German, specifically...

I would very much like to learn to speak and read and understand German, but don't have time for actually classes if they even offer them in my area. What are the best CD/book combinations out there you've had success with? I've gone through German 1A and part of German 1B on CD from Pimsleur and they are nice for speaking and hearing, but a book to aid in reading and writing would be even better.
