Best food/recipes when dealing with a stomach virus?


Nothing. We did no solid food until vomit free for 24 hours. When vomiting was still happening, tiny sips of liquid every 15 minutes to prevent dehydration without being hard on the stomach. The body can go 2 weeks without food, but needs to drink. No need to make an upset stomach do any work. With 5 kids, we had tons of stomach bugs. You carried your lined buckets wherever you went, towels on pillows and on the floor next to the bed. My kids knew the drill. And if it was in tbd house we all ate light.
 
Plain toast or you could add applesauce to it.
Room temp ginger ale or steep a slice of peeled ginger in hot water for 3-5 minutes.
Chicken broth/ soup heals everything 🙂

I fed my DH tea and home made chicken soup for three days. Didn’t cure his Afib! I know, what a shock it didn’t work! I thought he was coming down with cold or flu.
 
My go to is flat Gingerale and white bread or Saltine crackers.
 
Coke or gingerale (with real ginger possibly a regional brand), gatorade, homemade chicken soup, saltine crackers and popsicles.

Chicken soup: Chicken broth (shelf stable quart size), celery, onion and carrots (chopped into tiny pieces), chopped rotisserie chicken (enough for flavor), egg noodles, salt and pepper. I let it simmer for at least 30 minutes and then add noodles for an additional 5 minutes or so. You can use small amounts of chopped ingredients for taste and just a handful of noodles so it is more broth but still tasty. Serve with a few saltines or ritz crackers.

I use this recipe with bigger pieces of chopped vegies, lots of chicken and lots of noodles when we crave soup. It takes just a few minutes to prepare and lasts several days in the fridge.

Thanks. My family is definitely doing some of the suggestions. Watching team 🇺🇸 today lose in soccer didn't help though. 😕 I'm just trying to get rest this weekend before the workweek starts.
 
Every day I make a cooling soothing smoothie of 3 bananas, a small container of Oikos Vanilla, a handfull of Wymans Blueberries (or some frozen mango) and about 1 cup of ice to cool the belly.

If my belly hurts I have it at all meals and just before bed to soothe, I've been doing it for months and it makes such a difference.
 
Rice. When I had a really bad stomach bug that was the *only* food that would stay down. That, and Pedialyte. This was before it was recommended for adults, too. My doctor told me to drink small sips of it as often as I could.
 
Ice chips work wonders, it was my mother's way of showing love
when we were sick w/stomach bugs.
I always have a hard time keeping water or juice down, but gingerale works.
We also eat Cream of Wheat/Farina, bare toast and rice.
Hope you all feel better soon, there's a stomach bug going around our area.
 
My go-to has always been not just chicken soup, but specifically Lipton's boxed chicken with noodles. Somehow I like it when I'm sick-don't go for it when I'm well and want chicken soup.
