We usually go to the buffet for breakfast, as that is what my teenage sons and husband prefer. I, however, am not as thrilled with the food on the buffet, but I usually give in and go with what the group wants. By the end of the week, though, I get super tired of it, and wish for something a little better. For our upcoming cruise, however, I would like to change it up at least one morning and go to one of the MDRs for bfast. (We do have Palo brunch one day, so that day is taken care of!) Question to those out there: which one would you recommend? Favorite dishes to order?

There's only one MDR open for sit-down breakfast - Royal Court. And only one menu for breakfast. You can see the menus here: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/menus/main-dining-room-breakfast-menus/

As PrincessShmoo noted, you don't get a choice, there is only one MDR open for breakfast, and it is the same menu each breakfast except for possibly the last morning.

On our 7-day we tried to change it up by ordering breakfast to our room some mornings. This was especially good for some of the port mornings - it meant we could eat while we got ready and then felt like we got a better start to get off the ship because we didn’t have a heavy breakfast.

My dd likes the peanut butter and jelly pancake on the kids menu(it's HUGE) and I like the french toast and pineapple stack. We always go to the MDR at least once for breakfast and always get these. Best thing about the MDR breakfast is being able to get bacon that is cooked nice and crispy(ask for it this way). I can't stand the limpy bacon on the buffets.

My DH is also pleased with the crispy bacon in the MDR.

We are also fans of breakfast in Triton's, Lumiere's, etc.. Love the eggs Benedict. The last couple years, Royal Court on the Fantasy offers brunch rather than breakfast and lunch on the last sea day. On that day, Enchanted Garden is open for breakfast.

Yes, always 90 minutes in our experience. Typically it was 8-9:30 am but on our recent back to back on the Magic, Lumiere's was open from 8:30-10:00am on sea days and 8-9:30 on port days. Hours are different on debarkation morning when it becomes an assigned breakfast....which we skip. :sunny:

The MDR breakfast has a very limited menu. Cabanas has a much bigger selection. However, the MDR is more relaxing, I don't have to have someone sit at the table while another person goes up so that the servers don't clear your plate up before you have a chance to eat it, I don't have to carry plates around and the coffee is better. And I don't have to order the same thing every day and I can specify how I want my eggs or bacon cooked. We've started drifting towards only going to Cabanas if we have to eat fast to get to a tour and eat at an MDR otherwise.

The Fantasy also does a character breakfast. And on our last cruise they opened Enchanted Garden for breakfast one morning as well.
Well, I'm not sure that's what the OP was asking for (the character breakfast).

Yes, on the final at sea day they do open Enchanted Garden for a couple of hours in addition to Royal Court.

On the last sea day on the Fantasy, Royal Court is not open for breakfast. It opens later ( I think it has been 9:30 and 10 on different cruises we've been on) with a brunch menu. This started a couple years ago.
