Best face mask in heat

Paper masks

THIS!!

My DS works outside coaching high school and has been doing it since June. He had all kinds of cool nice cloth and wicking masks but found them hot, trapping sweat. He also said being around all those people he felt like it was quickly dirty. He actually changes his mask every couple hours, then tosses them. Once I went to a few places where there were lots more people I started to wear disposable to those events as well - straight to trashcan.

We are going in July and bought lots of cute disposable ones and will be changing them out every few hours. I see all those folks posting in their nice fabric masks but in a crowded park I don't want to handle them, bag them, wash them. We will go with the lightweight disposable, quickly change them out and toss the dirty ones.

I've bought a freaking ton of masks over the last year. I found it damn near impossible to find ones that were comfortable & most importantly...breathable. I'm that person that feels like they are going to suffocate and pulls the mask off as soon as humanly possible, every time I leave a store. I recently purchased a 2-layer chiffon mask off of Etsy and it's a game changer! I actually went back and purchased a couple more and I'm planning on bringing them for our trip.

I think the paper ones are probably the next best choice for comfort & breathability.

I am really interested in hearing more about the chiffon masks many of you have mentioned, particularly as everyone in my traveling party is fully vaccinated. Can you tell me the specific product name so I can search in Etsy please?

Thank you!!!

I bought a couple from this seller:https://www.etsy.com/listing/908970...asktoddler-chiffon?ref=shop_home_recs_1&crt=1

and one from this seller: https://www.etsy.com/listing/819206...reathable?ref=shop_home_active_33&frs=1&crt=1

Really hoping though, with the new CDC recommendation of no mask necessary outdoors AND us all being fully vaccinated that we can drop the masks even if when just walking around the park. I'd be fine if we had to put them back on when waiting in line.

I think this is a logical expectation for the summer for sure...hopefully by your May trip.

I wear, and am most comfortable in cloth masks at home. But in Disney last week I went the disposable route because of the heat! Did some research on Amazon for light ones that didn’t smell and had stretchy ear loops. They worked great for me! My son used them for a few days but went back to his cloth. In either circumstance, we all use the face frame, aka ‘beak’, and I really truly recommend trying it, really helps breathe and speak.

I live in a pretty warm and humid area, similar to that of Central Florida, and I've found I prefer either the disposable masks or 32 Degree masks. I have a ton of masks, and I loved our masks with filter pockets in the parks on our November & December trips, but now I can only do the paper masks and 32 degrees, the rest just leave me dying after a short period of time.

and I see what people are saying about the no masks outside thing, but the thing is, those recommendations are for non-crowded areas....which isn't Disney right now. July & August right after opening? Doable. Right now? Not a chance and they know it.

I say my above comment as someone who is fully vaccinated and would LOVE to not have to wear a mask outside, I just don't see them easing up soon (and I hope they prove me wrong on that one because I have a trip starting Memorial Day weekend and I am already dreading the masks mid day)

Going with the Under Armour as my primary next month. Will have some paper masks as my backup each day. Last trip I thought I was going to prefer the paper ones, but between catching on my beard and sweating they got uncomfortable at times.

I have been vaccinated but will politely adhere to Disney policy in July if a mask mandate is still in place. I made and donated hundreds of fun masks to educators (we have been in school five days a week since last August) and to our hospital. I made masks following hospital guidelines for masks provided by a Toledo, OH hospital. I am going to use this pattern and leave out the interface filter layer and make one layer cotton Disney print masks for my visit. This will meet the mandate and be soemwhat lighter in weight in the heat. Also these masks can easily washed. Also my glasses will not fog up. Maybe we will be lucky and have the outdoor mask mandate lifted at Disney soon. :cool1:

I just ordered a couple of the Pomchies masks and will report back what I think once I’ve tried them. Next up is the chiffon masks. I will be ordering those as well for a comparison. Four out of the five (perhaps all of us if vaccines are allowed down to 14 year olds soon) in our family will be fully vaccinated by the time we go in July so I am not super concerned about having a ultra safe mask. I just want something that is very breathable in the summer and still meet the Disney criteria for masks. My guess is that the chiffon masks will win out for us but we will see

I wore chiffon masks all year, including a hot Disney trip in October and cold Disney trip in December. They worked well for me until I needed to talk. Then, they stick to my lips! So, when I returned to substituting in my local school, I chose the Old Navy ones, child size. They don't stick to my lips, don't get in my eyes like the paper ones do, and fit well. Just another opinion! :)

Being fully vaccinated and having no more fear of getting or transmitting Covid, I now wear masks purely for compliance as opposed to for protection. And Etsy is my go-to for this; if you search on Etsy for lightweight breathable mask, you will see an absolute ton of options.

I have purchased these. They are very lightweight and breathable, but if you don't cover your entire face, down under you chin, the inside layer gets in my mouth when I talk, so if someone is going to purchase , I suggest get only one or two to be sure you like it.

I had that problem with one of the masks I ordered. It looked fine but the inside layer kept getting in my mouth. Turns out, it was just a little too big for my face. I had the same seller customize a new mask to an inch less (in both directions) and now it fits perfectly...and stays out of my mouth. It can still brush up against my lips here and there but doesn’t get sucked in.

I definitely agree on trying one to see if it suits you or not.

I have both Pomchies and chiffon masks. For me, the chiffon wins for breathability. I found that the Pomchies are definitely more breathable than the standard fabric masks but not more so than the chiffon. Still, they fit well and they don’t touch my lips at all. I’m bringing both types for our trip next week to test them out in the heat.
