ROFL! Funny you should mention Emu oil. We had a patient come in for wisdom teeth extraction a month or so ago and wanted her gauze soaked in Emu oil (she had brought a jar of it with her). Of course, we didn't do this, gross........but she did it herself when she got home. Called us a few days later swearing she'd had no pain, never took any of her pain meds, miraculous healing thanks to the wonderous emu oil. Okay, bear in mind, this stuff was NASTY looking.........looked like it had been run through a sock.....ick ick ick
What part of the emu does that come from anyway????
Ask and ye shall recieve...
(from Crissup's link)
"Aborigines in Wiluna and elsewhere reveal that methods of treatment included hanging an emu skin on a tree to collect the oil, and wrapping sufferers in a fresh killed skin. In both cases the catalyst of the suns' heat was used to liquefy the Emu fat and enhance its absorption qualities."
This is my favorite quote from the site; their slogan...
"EMU OIL -
Life Just
Got Better!(tm)"
Too bad it's trademarked, I was gonna put that on my Christmas cards!
Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. We have an Emu society that runs a booth at our county fair, and the products are wonderful (once you get over the shock). I have had emu jerky, emu sausage sticks, and had an emu burger in a restaurant. Very delicious. So the rumors about the emu legs over the years have never bothered me!!!
