I've tried the search functions 10 different times and it says zero results or it isn't finding the correct information I need....so help!

We're headed south on I-75, and Google Maps is taking this bizarre route having me turn by Wilderness lodge and then take some back road along the shore of Bay Lake. Well, I know THAT'S not right...

So off of 75 I take 91 to the 429 and go south to Winter Garden/Vineland. Should I stay on that all the way to Vista?

Or should I take the back route it's showing which is Reams to Center to World Dr.?

I'm so confused....:headache:

I take Winter Garden/Vineland all the way to Vista. Make a right on Vista, and the Fort will be on your right. Make sure to take the 2nd Fort entrance, not the one into the day lot.

I think others prefer the Western Way route over this one, so they may chime in. I've done both and don't have much of a preference one way or the other. Either way I end up at the Fort! Just don't trust Google Maps...you may end up on the swamp trail! :scared1:

If you take I-75 to the Fla Turnpike and then south on 429 there is an exit (new, little over a year old) specifically for DISNEY. Takes you right on to the property and then just follow the signs for the Magic KIngdom and FW.

I have taken both ways and found the exit from 429 to be the quickest and least confusing

Is this an appropriate route (height wise) for motorhomes?

Oh yeah, not a problem. The MK tollbooth is plenty tall. and coming that way into the campground with a big MH is actually pretty easy as it is an angled left turn. If you come from the other direction, it is a hard, right turn.

:thumbsup2 Awesome Thanks.

Just a quick hint, not that I know anyone who's done it

Don't pull over before the big Walt Disney World sign to take a picture. The cones on the side of the road make weird noises under the motorhome as you drive over them.

:guilty:

Honestly they weren't there 30 years ago.

Take exit 267A off the Florida Turnpike and go south on the Western Way ( 429, there is one toll booth on here ). Get off at Exit 8, Western Way road. Turn left and head into WDW. WATCH YOUR SPEED, this is a speed trap area ! Western Way ends at Buena Vista Drive, turn left. The first major intersection is World Drive, go north ( left? not sure of how the ramp is as I don't go in this way ). Stay right and go past the Epcot exit as you will be going through the main toll booth for the Magic Kingdom. Use the far right toll booth ( not the lane for the WDW Buses only ;) ) stop and tell them you are going to FW, maybe have your reservation letter with you. You are going to make a right turn just after clearing the toll booth onto Vista Blvd. The main entrance to FW is just down the road on the left ( easy left turn ). :thumbsup2

I like this idea - it looks very easy on the map...thanks!

Getting excited! Trailer is in the driveway now and I'm getting her ready!

CampingBandit, I see you are from the windy city area, may I suggest, take I-65 all the way to Montgomery, AL. Take I-85 east to exit 9 ( Route 271 ) go south, about 5 miles, to US-231. This is a four lane 65mph road that passes round a couple of big towns but does not really slow you down too much. There is a Flying J on the south side of Dothan, AL that is a good place to stop and eat and get your last tank of cheaper fuel before Florida. Then continue south to I-10. Take that east to exit 225 ( US-19 ). US-19 is another four lane 65mph road that passes through some small towns. This is the favorite part of the trip, for me. There is almost no traffic and it goes through some beautiful Florida back country. Go south to Chiefland, FL where you will take ALT US-27 south. This will bring you back to I-75. From there it is on to the Florida Turnpike and then the Western Way Tollroad ( 429 ) and the WDW western entrance.

This is only 60 miles longer then I-75 through Atlanta, but I despise Atlanta and that goes for I-75 (and I-4), too. Generally there are fewer trucks, too. We have done this route in our 38' motorhome the 2007 and 2008 trips and other then Nashville, there are no major cities to go through. I've always taken I-65 to I-24 to I-75 when going to Florida, but I have found taking the above route I arrive more relaxed and enjoy the trip more.

I guess each to his own. I have tried that route several times and HATE it. I much prefer going through Atlanta. But then I generally never go through Atlanta before 7pm.

What kind of traffic can we expect around Atlanta on I-75 around 1pm on Friday? That's about when I would think we would pass thru...

I already have a prepaid reservation for the Valdosta KOA - I don't think the other route would work for us, though I appreciate the suggestion...

Atlanta you never know, seems like rush hour is 24 hours a day now there.
But I can suggest taking the bypass.:thumbsup2
You go around rather than right through downtown and you are much more likely to keep moving and not be in bumper to bumper traffic.
Does not take that much longer and is way better on your nerves.
Last time I went straight 'through' I swore I'd never do it again, and I'm a very accomplished driver. If it makes me nervous, it's really scary!

This trip will be pulling my new T@B camper, I pick it up this coming Saturday.

I always go through downtown. I don't like the bypass. The semi trucks HAVE to take the bypass so you don't have them through downtown. But then like I said it's generally after 7pm when I go through there.
