Hello again everyone. I have enountered yet another problem while planning my wedding. My BM is a rather large woman and my sister (MOH) is prego! My problem is that I need to find a dress both can wear that looks elegant and has kind of a thicker strap so my sister can wear her nursing bra. (Her baby is due 1 month before my wedding) :cool1: Any suggestions?

JessHooper,

Have you checked into David's Bridal? They have nice dresses for the much larger woman. I hope that helps a little.

we used Alfred Angelo which comes in all sizes from jr. bm to plus...

I've looked at David's because that is where I'm ordering my dress from, but my dress color is Silver/Sterling, and none of them come in that color...its only in the 'mix and match' tops

I actually picked out a dress that both my bridesmaids love, however the bridal shop they went to said that (even though it comes in up to size 30) the dress wouldn't look good on a bigger girl. The style # is 6353 from AA. The only way to find out if it will look good is for them to try it on, but they don't carry it large enough for them to try on and the shop won't order the proper size unless we pay for it first. And again, we don't want to pay for something if she won't look good in it.

Have you conisdered letting each girl pick their own style, and just get the same color. I know it is an odd concept, but I have seen several wedding done this way, and it actually looks very elegant, because each girl ends up with a style that really flatters her own figure. The different style dresses don't stand out as much as you think they would.

Edited to add: I found an example on the internet. This will be really weird if I ended up using a brides picture who actually posts on these boards. I hope I don't offend anyone!

Hey guys the best seller at the store I worked at was Mori Lee 547. Looked great on larger girls, and pregnant girls. It is a two piece dress and the pregnant gals can pull the skirt over their tummy. If the dress is keystone (doubled) it should be 100 dollars. In cities they raise the prices, but it is a great quality gown very very flattering. I would HIGHLY recommend it from 2-28 it will look nice!

I also liked the Mori Lee gowns, they were popular in our store too in Virginia, our other big seller was Belsoi (sp).....its been a while, so my spelling on the brand may be off. The last wedding I was in we wore alfred angelo and it was a two piece in cornflower blue. The top we chose was very flattering for every size. We had a size 3 to a size 18 and we all looked very nice. The wedding before that that I was in we wore a navy blue one piece with spaghetti straps.......................yeah, right. Did anyone ever hear the saying " you cant hide an elephant behind a tree " ???? Well, this dress was the true illustration of that. I paid the most money for the worst looking dress for any wedding I was in, and that has been a lot. I am lucky though because I can wear the cornflower bule alfred angelo to the Naval Submarine Ball this April....ok, I am done rambling

The last 2 weddings I was in did that. One, the color was pink, the other silver and none of us looked good in the same dress style. It was really nice, did not look out of place at all since we were all in the same color and fabric, and we loved being able to choose a dress that looked good and fit well.

I'm surprised David's doesn't have silver dresses, that's where we got ours for my friend's wedding and they had the 2-pieces but also the regular dresses, but that was a few years ago.

I had a pregnant BM and 2 heavy girls in my party. We went with Alexia seperates. They each chose a top that was suiting to them In the end they all looked very flattering and gorgeous.

Thanks everyone for your help! I think we'll end up just letting them pick their own dresses

Letting each girl pick out their own dress is really a great thing for the bride to do. Not every girl in the bridal party will look good in the same thing. And each one will fill comfortable in something that the other wont. Im the MOH in my best friend's wedding and she let us each pick out our own dress. She picked the color though. But, the other girls in the wedding party really liked the one I choose, so we all ended up picking the same dress after all.
