Hi we're planning a trip w/ two 2 year olds, our 1st Disney trip as a family! Since there is so much info on this board, I would love some personal opinions on which resort inside Disney is best for toddlers, in terms of in case they get burned out from the parks and we end up at the hotel for a good chunck of our stay, Ive heard Animal Kingdom has animals to watch, any other ideas? THanks so much for your input ::MinnieMo

I would think ASM would be best. All the movie items around the area make it fun for them. The nicer resorts do have nicer pools though.

When we first took our 2 y/o we stayed at AKL just because we got a phenominal room rate. (I'd never pay rack rate). I have had many friends stay at ASMovies and their kids LOVE the themeing there.

I like the convenience of having a hotel close to the Magic Kingdom (since that's the one toddlers usually enjoy the most). Our favorite is GF, but you can't go wrong with the Poly, WL or Contemporary either. WL is a deluxe hotel, but since it only sleeps 6 it costs a lot less than the other three. Meant to say it only sleeps 4. Transportation is great - monorail or ferry from Poly or Gf, monorail or walk from Contemporary and Ferry from WL.

ASmovies would be great if they have favorite charactures like Toy Story. However, with your concerns, I'd stay in a 1bedroom at one of the HAFH's. You want that bedroom dorr to close between you and sleeping kids. Plus youll get a full kitchen with is great for meals and snacks.

The cabins at Fort Wilderness are fun. There is a petting zoo and pony rides at the outpost. You can also do the horse and wagon ride or carriage ride. The MK is only a ferry boat ride away.

We stayed at Pop Century in September and my kids had a great time playing in the spray pool.

Money aside, stay at a monorail resort. So easy to get to the MK. If that is not an option, WL is great. Just a boatride away. Other than that, choose a place that the adults will love and the kids will be happy. Toddlers really do not care what the place looks like. They will love any pool, and be happy where ever you are!!!

hi!

we stayed at FW cabins in nov. with our 3 just-turned-2 y.o.s....the extra bedroom was GREAT for naptime and bedtime (they took LONG naps and slept pretty well at night), and i liked the idea that i didn't have to worry about them waking neighbors up if they did get up in the night (at that time, they didn't have a great track record of sleeping through the night).

the kitchen was nice to have (although they didn't eat as much "home cooked" food as i would have expected/preferred), and the BIG fridge was great for the gallons and gallons of milk we go through!!

the extra space on the porch and in the "family room" was nice for the kids to run around.

we stayed there because, like you, i thought we needed to plan for LOTS of time away from the parks. well, we did spend lots of time away from the parks, but because my kids didn't sleep in their strollers so we were back for 3 hr. naps every day , and transportation took quite a while..we drove, mostly, as it was easier to lug the strollers out the cabin door directly into the car as opposed to using them to get to the internal bus stop, then folding them up to get to the other bus stop or ferry, then back out to get into the parks. either way, we found that FW is not eay transportation for multiple 2 year olds (and we had parents and in-laws to help!)

we also thought we'd use the playgrounds, pool, petting zoo,and nightly campfire during "downtime".... for our kids, downtime meant needing calming, quiet activities to get them ready for nap/bed or giving them time to wake up and eat. being in the parks and in the sun really affected their ability to function well without their routine (and i have pretty easy going kids). we went to the playground 1 afternoon (the afternoon we didn't go into a park) and never made it to the campfire, pool, or zoo (the pools are nothing special at FW).

we're going again in april/may and will stay at the poly (if we get the AP discount!)....transportation will be SO much easier as it is a hop on the monorail (don't even have to fold the strollers) , and to me that was the biggest consideration this trip. also love the quick walk to the beach and the zero-entry pool (my kids don't really like "swimming", but we have a sloped-entry pool like the one at the poly at out local YMCA and my kids LOVE being able to control how much water they are in!)

as opposed to the last trip, we'll have the whole day off the 1st day we're there to swim, get into a sleep routine (we'll miss the extra bedroom!!!!), ride the monorails, play on the beach and on the playground, and watch the fireworks from the beach over "mickey's castle". we're also doing the character breakfast at ohana's that sunday (we'll check in sat. night).--all of these things, by the way, were my kids' favorite activities! ...in nov., we made our PS for the last day for a character breakfast to make sure the kids weren't freaked out, but should have tried to change it to sooner because they loved it! by the way, if you stay at any on-site resort, you can do all of these things at the poly (other than the swimming!!)

we're going again in sept. or oct (kids are free until 3!!!!), and we're considering trying adjoining rooms at a value resort at that time, just to try out all of our options (once i go deluxe, though, i might never want to go back!!)

oh, we stayed at AKL the first night (got a savannah upgrade!) and the kids really liked boma and loved the playground. the animal viewing was nice, but only kept my 3 entertained for a few minutes at a time (and they LOVE going to the zoo). there is A LOT for little ones to look at, though, and they enjoyed wandering arond the lobby and outside...we drove to AK in the morning, but i forgot that the parking lots don't open early for early entry :( , so we wasted some time getting in...

hope some of this info. helps and have a MAGICAL time!!!

We loved the AKL. My then 2 year old daughter continually asked to "go room". All the kids loved the animals and exploring the hotel for hidden Mickeys and there are lots of sceduled activities for the kids there. One night we looked through night vision goggles at the animals. The kids played drums & danced with some cast members from Africa. There is lots to do there.

My DD was 2 when we stayed at ASM, she loved the toy story area, so much that we are returning in 3 weekes and 5 days.

Hi , great info! We are leaning towards a resort on monorail for ease, any info on GF w/ toddlers?! Love idea of AKL but fear the buses from what i've read! thanks again :)

We just returned from allstar movies with a 4yo, 2yo, and 7mo. They loved it!!! There is a great kiddie pool and playground along with great disney theming.

As many have already stated I would definently say All Star Movies. My dd was 3 the first time we went and she also loved the Toy Story Area. The main pool as a great kiddie pool area and a play ground close by. Also, we found the bus service from ASM to be really good we never had to wait long for a bus. :earsboy:

We are taking our 4 kids to GF(2 are under 3) I wanted to quickest route to MK and a very easy trip back to the hotel if a quiet nap is needed or some cooling off in the pool. Decide where you plan on spending most of your time and pick a hotel in that area. For us AK is only a day trip-so I would not stay there because every day would mean buses. We like the monorail idea for MK and Epcot.

You can't beat the convience of a monorail resort (poly would be my first choice), but it also comes with the price tag. The WL would also be nice.

Pop is also fun for kids and I think ASMo would be too. You will have to use a bus for all the parks and carrying sleeping children and a stroller can be alot of work.

ok...I'm throwing out a vote for the beach club....our little guy absolutely loved the pool....it was easy to get to all the parks...and they have an awesome character breakfast on site. We have a hard time convincing ourselves to stay anywhere else!

Our first trip to GF the kids were 2 1/2, 4 and 5. They loved it. My ds (2) loved the kids pool. They liked it so much we go back every year. We take the Monorail over to the MK and take the boat back. That way we're the first stop both ways. Kids love Gasparilla's for quick snacks and there are outside tables and chairs which is a great spot to watch the fireworks. We've done both character breakfast and dinner there and the kids really like both. I don't think you can go wrong with the Grand FLoridian.

I love ALL disney hotels but I think the Wilderness Lodge is great for toddlers. The main lobby is huge, awe enspiring and NOISY.Which means the kids can run and touch and yell all they want and you don't have to be embarrassed because every kid in the place is doing it too! It also has a boat over to the Magic Kingdom which is very nice and convenient. Their main hotel is very family friendly--noise level high hear as well. There is also a cafateria-type restaurant that has very good food for reasonable (given the mouse house) prices. They even offer fresh fruit, yogurt, salads. I think common choices like grilled cheese and hot dogs can make a vacation less stressful. The pool is lovely and the wading pool for small children in huge. There are bikes and boats to rent, a beach to dig in, and you can walk over to the campground where they have a free petting zoo! I've read that there are other children's activities, too, (like duck races) but I haven't been in a year so I don't know what may have changed. The also did fireside bedtime stories the last time I was there but again I don't know if they still do this. I am going at Easter with an exactly 2 year old so I should know more then.

We've stayed at CS: Great because of the pool, playground, sand box. Never was worried about my kids running around outside because there was usually not many people out walking around. Food choices were good and reasonably priced.

GF: Well, what can you complain about! DDs were 2 and 10 mos. Loved the location, the size of the room, the pool

AKL: DDs were 2 and 10 mos. Loved this resort! Animals were wonderful, lots to do and see at the resort itself. We felt we could have spent a few days just doing all the activities they had there! Great pool, good playground, good food. Downside: the length of the bus trip was very difficult with two little kids after a long day in the park. Seemed like forever to get back.

Poly: DDs were 3, 18 mos, 6 weeks. Location, location, location! Wonderful resort. Loved watching the fireworks from the pool & beach. Nightly boat parade. Our favorite!

So, I guess I would recommend staying at the monorail resorts, if you can swing it. I've found that we've never had many complaints about any resort we stayed at. They all have great things about them, but when you are running back and forth with 2 year olds, it's easier to hop on the monorail & be back in your room in 10 minutes. One night my DH took my DD (3) to see the fireworks at MK. As soon as that last firework went off, she was out. My DH had to carry this 35lb child back to the room at closing time! However, some very kind people allowed him to pass them in line for the boat ride back to the Poly. He got up to the front & was back in the room within minutes. That's why we like to stay at the monorail resorts. :) Have fun wherever you decide. :Pinkbounc
