Best day of the week to arrive for best site??

We're counting down the days!! We leave for the Fort 10 weeks from today, and we can hardly wait!! It's 5 below zero here in Michigan at noon - and the windchill is -25. Keep those Florida pictures coming! They look GREAT!

We're due to arrive at the Fort on Sunday, March 29th - early in the day. But if we pushed it a bit more (traveling with our grandaughter, so driving more at night might be nice!) we could arrive around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28th. In your opinion, would we stand a better chance of getting our requested loop by arriving LATE on Saturday or EARLY on Sunday? What do you think? Thanks again for your help!!

I would vote for sunday! It always seemed to me some people left on sat, but the mass exodus was always sunday morning. LOL Then it would be slow monday and start picking up more each day. You have to remember, that some of the people who go to the fort aren't us poor northeners, there are some lucky floridians that just go for the weekend.

I agree Sunday seems to be "evacuation" day. In fact we've never had any problem requesting a specific loop/site when arriving fairly early on a Sunday.

Sunday for sure. In fact, you might have to wait a little longer than the 10 am time to get the site you want. You might even want to plan on arriving at the Outpost, semi check in, then park and head out to one of the parks for breakfast.
Much depends on how busy the Fort is. Busier time is longer wait for sites to be cleaned. Quietier time, hey, pick your site.

Anyone ever checked in on a Monday afternoon? In October?? We are driving from CT with a caravan of people and we are leaving on a Saturday at 3am and plan on doing two nights down, putting us at the Fort on Monday around 3pm. I was just curious about our chances getting requested loop....

October is a fabulous time to be at the Fort. Check in should be a piece of cake. I usually breeze right through at about 11:30 am. Bet you could get in even earlier, but don't tell anybody.
You'll have a great time!!!!

We stayed at the Grand Lake golf and RV resort just north of Ocala exit 368 in December, it was easy to get to and had mostly pull thrus and a lot of stuff you won't need for an overnight. Its clean and has security. I believe we paid $36. We've been in a few in Ocala that were dirty and didn't feel all that safe. There is another campground at the same exit that is suspose to be good too. Grand Lakes web is www.morganrvresorts.com and Ocala north is www.ocalanorthrv.com

I believe Southern Oaks in Summerfield FL is a Passport campground. Summerfield is just south of Ocala (north of the villages). It's a nice campground with very clean, new facilities. Definitely an adult cg though, nothing for kids to do there.

We stayed over at the first rest stop in Florida. Had no problems and in fact there was a policemen that was there all night. Woke up and checked in about 11:00 Sunday morning. It all worked perfectly. It also was in October, our favorite time to be at the Fort.
