Best cruise travel insurance for cancellation with no reason?

Thank you for such a nice response! 75% is better than nothing. I was thinking not necessarily about a medical issue but what if I suddenly lost my job or something crazy like that. At my previous job my company suddenly almost closed its doors because of bankruptcy. They didn't tell any of us employees what was going on. What if we had a massive earthquake? I live in CA. You just never know what can happen. This would be for the 2 week Hawaii cruise and that's a nice chunk of change. I was just trying to figure this out. I've never considered a GT rate before. Again, thank you for your helpful response!

I am really very sorry if you were offended by my reply bit you did ask if there was an insurance that would cover cancelelation for any reason and get a full refund. Now for the reasons that you are now wanting cover for, is a completely different question. If you go you go to an Insurance broker and tell him what reasons you want he will provide cover but not for any or no reason as you originally asked.

Sorry Ally, you shouldn't give such RUDE answers when you haven't done the research first-you shouldn't be so rude regardless.

Like others stated, this insurance does exist-but a reason would have to be supplied, and you would be out some money.

We had the option of purchasing "cancel for ANY reason" and then a more specific "cancel for work reason" additions to our insurance. We chose the work related since it was a bit cheaper and that would be the only not already covered reason.

I also want to think with these additions there is a time frame they have to be purchased within-I am unsure the specifics of this as we purchase our insurance out of the gate and book pretty far out.

You are quite right, I apologise for the manner in which I replied. I don't think I was rude but I could have been a bit more constructive in my assistance. In mitigation I would put it down to 27 years of experience in the Insurance Industry and I have had to deal with people who have taken out travel insurance with me and has had various pre existing medical conditions in which they do not declare, then when they want to cancel because their financial situation changes, or has just changed their mind, they give the company a bad name because it won't pay up. However the op was asking up front the question and I should have given a more appropriate and helpful answer especially having the experience over someone who has no experience at all. I was too hasty and I am now disgusted with my behaviour. I too look for help on the Dis boards and once again I am ashamed of myself for submitting an unnecessary unhelpful reply for which I not only offer an apology to the poster but also to members of Dis boards

Actually, there are policies that include a "cancel for any reason" provision. THey do not generally refund ALL your money under this clause. For instance, they may cover 100% of your loss if you cancel for a documented medical reason but only 75% if you cancel for a non-covered reason. The idea is not to cover because someone just changed their mind, but rather to cover for things that might not otherwise be listed in the policy.

Call the people at insuremytrip.com to see what they can offer.

This is what we did.
Not sure if DH got it from insuremytrip.com or tripinsurancestore.com
I also was unsure about some health issues and such when we booked our VGT so I got the CFAR clause for a little peace of mind.
There is a plan that covers 100% CFAR clause. Call and ask.
The one we got covers 75% of unpaid back to us. For a VGT that would be the 75% total cost.

Ally, thank you for coming back to the post and for your kind words. :)

If I switch to the VGT I'm definitely going to attempt to purchase a CFAR clause.

Thank you all for your help! Hopefully this works out well!

You must be kidding yourself. Do you know what trip insurance is? it is a policy whereby a company will insure you against certain risks. If you could get cancellation insurance for just plain cancelling for any reason like just changing your mind, everybody would be having it and the premium would be the same as the price of your vacation. Dream on

Huh?
---------------

OP, I have bought a cancel for any reason for a couple of different trips. I used insuremytrip.com and looked at the comparisons there. The one I picked most recently was a TravelSafe plan.

Beyond rude. Whatever happened to just helping people on these boards without making them feel inadequate? At least you came back with what appeared to be a sincere apology.

You have to purchase the insurance fairly quickly after you book the reservation. Read up on the CFAR before you book so you'll know what insurance you want to get and book it in time. We got the CFAR policy offered by Global Alert at the tripinsurancestore.com . I looked it up since I posted earlier. Not saying it is the best one, it is just the plan we ended up getting.

I would get in touch with them and explain what you need & want so they can tell you what is best for you.

Luv2sleep, I am glad you got some helpful answers. I just looked to see what insurance we had and it was through Insuremytrip. I was able to compare different policies and decided which one best suited me (I also called because I like hearing correct answers a couple of times before I feel secure). Anyway, I always take insurance on my trips and flights simply because I have experienced some health issues in the past and always worry they may resurface, I worry too if our financial situation changes, and also my husband and I have elderly parents that we need to worry about (Lord forbid they pass right before our trip LOL in a sick kind of way)! Good Luck and happy sailing:banana::banana:

I know first hand that CFAR insurance exists and I was refunded 100%. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the company because I bought directly from the TA. However, it is a funny story for these boards!

I had planned a trip for our family of three to Africa for a safari. The country was encountering a lot of political instability. I was in frequent contact with the tour company encouraging them to cancel. They assured me that people on the ground had things in control. I cancelled 8 days before departure and received a full refund. My reason for cancelling was that I didn't feel safe. Why is this funny? I used the refund to go on our first Disney cruise. It was the Med. in 2010. So the addiction began.......

It really made me nervous to book the VGT because of my husband's work overseas. I'm never sure too far in advance when he will be available. For this reason, I did research before booking and got insurance through InsureMyTrip.com, with the cancel for any reason clause. If he can't make the trip I will get 75% of his trip refunded. You have to buy the insurance within 14 days of booking your trip. When I finalized my flight plans, I called them again and added the name of the air carrier. They were very helpful. Not sure how they will be if I have to cancel though.

We always use DCL insurance. In the past, they've sent a confirmation of insurance and a letter stating that we will get future cruise credit if the insurance doesn't cover are reason for canceling the cruise. I think it's a very valid question.

So, after reading this thread, I am a bit worried. We had to delay and rebook a cruise, yet, we do not have insurance yet (Fall '13). We did this last Fall. My TA said I could wait, but, am I out of luck going through a different company other than DCL? (We do have insurance thru USAA).

Any answers would be helpful... thanks! :)

Is the entire cruise balance transferred over to a new cruise date?

Here is what may be an odd question.

I like DCL's insurance for the fact if one's claim is denied they will issue a credit for a future cruise.

I like other plans for the ability to get primary health insurance coverage and evac insurance.

Can I do DCL's and then do a policy with say Travel Guard for a small amount just so I can get the medical and evac too? (I don't need airfare)

So, would this work if the grandparents, who are scheduled to stay with our kids during our next cruise, are unable to do so for whatever reason? The grandparents are flying in to stay with our boys while DH and I go on a cruise by ourselves. Would DCL insurance work if they were unable to stay with the boys?

Does DCL insurance not cover medical expenses?

On our upcoming cruise, my mom is staying on our rooms. She got her own trip insurance in case her health worsens.

I'm thinking of booking a GT rate cruise. From what I read there's a no cancellation policy with these. I'm thinking I would need trip insurance that allows me to cancel with for any or no reason and get a full refund. Does such a policy exist? If so, can someone point me in the direction of a good company for it? I tried reading some of the sites and they are confusing. Thanks!

The no cancellation restriction is DCL's - and not the insurer's. Regular trip insurance, without the cancel for any reason rider, ought to cover you if you have to cancel for a covered reason. If you think you might cancel the trip for a reason other than those specified in the policy - then it may be worth getting the CFAR policy. Read the fine print of any policy and/or call the insurance company to verify.
