My Mom is dependent upon an ECV. We have rented in the past with some experiences better than others. Last trip, we rented from Buena Vista and Mom had trouble with the ECV not holding a charge for the day.
I would love to hear the experiences of others!
Thanks!!

All of the companies on the recommended list (Post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs) are ones who have over the years shown to provide generally high quality service. From time to time all of them have had occasional problems, including weak/bad batteries or other problems. Usually they will take immediate action to remedy a problem if you contact them during the rental period.

I have rented from two places.

My personal experience at the first was poor - my battery was dying and I called AND my battery died in the parks and I called and they were really no help. I won't name them because many others say they have great service.

However....

I have since rented from Apple Scooters twice and will continue to rent from them and recommend them to my friends. I had a problem with a battery that was not really dead yet, but was not holding a charge well, either - and they immediately brought me a new chair. Extremely good customer service and the best prices I found, too.

We rented from Scoot A Rama a few years ago. The scooter was there waiting for us when we arrived, and we had absolutely no problems with it. It held a charge much longer than we thought it would. However, this trip I think we're going to try Apple Scooters.

We always rent my mom's from Walker's Mobility and have never had a problem.

We just rented from Randy's Mobility. We were nervous about getting an ECV at the parks because we were not going to be the first ones at the park for the day. Of the three companies we called, only Randy's could accomodate our last minute request, and were really friendly and polite. They have a two day minimum which is less than the others and offer a weekly discount. Adam came out to the vacation home we rented, showed us how to use it and break it down. The scooter was in good condition and they gave us the charging cord which fits in a pouch on the back of the seat. We did need to plug in after about 8 hrs in Epcot, but if you look around the landscaped areas near the attractions there are outlets to plug into especially easy to find in the world showcase. it was not a big deal to charge back up and get going. There are also plugs in many of the shops in future world. We were at Epcot just this past Thursday 1/20/2011. Would use this company again definatly! No, we are not affiliated in any way.

I have used several different companies and I have been satisfied with each of them. A-1, Scooterama, and Randy's are the ones I used most recently. The first two I didn't have to be there at the time the scooter was delivered which is my preference since I like to hit the ground running. :rotfl: So far no major problems with anyone. :cheer2:

My last two trips I found that the resorts had scooters sitting there that could be rented. I just called the company and made arrangements for the bellhop to give me the key. Of course this is not something that I could count on but it might help someone who is doing a last min trip and doesn't want to rent in the park.

FYI- If I travel alone I have to have an ECV, but if my DH is with me I actually like renting at the park more and then using the wheelchair on the bus. I am able to load onto the bus myself without the platform and DH can fold the chair quickly when he enters. Much less stress and also saves bus space for others. I normally want to be at the park until I am too tired and then I just go back to the room for the remainder of the day, so we seldom use the ECV outside the park anyway.

Good luck!

I am a local resident who needed a scooter rental for a relative coming in to town. I researched all the competition and decided to book with Apple.
I live near the airport and not disney and I was happy that I could pick a hotel from their website to which the scooter would be delivered.
The website indicated that the rate was all inclusive. And I immediately got a confirmation from booking on the web.

Today we called and spoke with Alex about changing the payment method on the scooter. When we received a confirmation email supporting the change- the rate increased by $20. The confirmation did not tell us that nor did Alex tell us that when we called to make our change. I just noticed it on the new confirmation. Upon calling and talking with Alex- he admitted that he himself manually increased the rate by adding a $20 delivery fee. He said that the aiport was far and that he was charging that to offset his "personnel" costs to deliver the scooter.
But, the problem is that their website gives 5 different airport hotels to choose from. When you go thru the booking process to have the scooter delivered - you are able to choose both on airport and off airport hotel's. We asked Alex to direct us on the website where it spells out the $20 fee to deliver to the airport and he admitted that it does not say that.
In fact - he could not provide us anything in writing to support where this fee come's in. Everthing actually supports the opposite - as it says the rate is inclusive and no hidden fee's. When I pointed that out to Alex- rather than apologize for their error on their own website - his answer was to say that this is the fee. He did not seem that broken up to lose our business until I told him that I would make sure that people considering his business who are not local - will know that his standard business practice is to manually adjust confirmed rate's without notice.

I had no choice but to cancelthe booking. Alex told me that he was a manager after I asked to talk to one. Unfortunately If this is how they do business- then I must go with a more reputable business that may be a bit more money- but has more honest, reputable business practice.

In the end it was not about the $20 additional. It was about a manual price adjustment done by this Alex- without evening explaining it to the customer.
If this is their standard business practice- renting from them seems like it could be a headache.

We used Walker the last time there, in September, and we were very satisfied. We'll use them again.

I don't believe a word of this post!!! Your user name and the fact that the only 2 posts you have ever posted are exactly alike, has me thinking that you are just trying to cause trouble because you are a competitor from another rental company that is being beat by Apple every time!!

We have started using Apple Scooters over the past couple of visits and we love them. We are now considered "frequent renters" and get a discount and the customer service has always been good.

In the interest of full disclosure, we did have a problem with one scooter in the last couple of hours of our last trip but since it was late and we didn't see the point in calling them and arranging for a replacement or a diagnosis when we were about to leave. As scooters receive a lot of wear and tear in the parks, it's not unheard of to have issues from time to time, even with Disney scooters.

My favorite thing about their scooters is that they are so simple to assemble and break down - I was really concerned about that as we had previously rented from a company whose scooters were a pain in the rear in that department.

Would you mind explaining this in a little more detail and how much discount do you get. I'm not sure I would ever qualify for frequent renters discount, but some other posters may be able to do so.

I have been renting from Walker Mobility for several years. I really like their friendly and efficient customer service and the quality of the scooters I have rented. The scooter is almost always at the resort before I arrive. Friends who live near Disney rented two scooters for relatives who were visiting. Their experience was equally good.

I'll do my best. My girlfriend rents the scooters so I'm not 100% on the details, but we've rented from them 2-3 times this year. When the 3rd trip was confirmed I believe we received a small discount. I don't think it was very much, 10% tops, but a dollar is a dollar.

I am the girlfriend in question so I will elaborate a bit. We rented from Apple twice in September and have booked with them for next weekend. I also discussed with Alex how I will need scooters for December and January but we did not have firm hotel plans yet. When I booked the November trip, he gave me a small discount (it was a total of about $10 for both scooters) which I did not expect or ask for since their prices are very competitive. I do not know if I will get that when I book December and January or if it was a one time deal since I will be renting from them 5 times in 5 months.
